Our first date couldn't have been any more perfect, and the beginning of the new week seems to be the beginning of more worries. I was trying my best to come up with a way to ask my parents to help with Angel's dad's case. He had originally pitched me the idea of him being there to sort of soften the situation and give them more information. I decided that it would've been a better idea for me to pitch the idea to them, just in the rare instance they do say no. In my heart of hearts I knew they wouldn't, but in case they did, I didn't want Angel to be there because I can't take the look of pain painted on his face.

A part of me was also still angry with my parents for sure. I still feel a distance from them and I'm trying my hardest to rebuild what was broken. It seems like it would take a lot of work but it was all up to me. I could choose to be angry and spiteful the rest of my life but truth be told, that's tiring. I also try my best to be a positive person, to try to look at the glass half full. Even though life throws us some curveballs I've decided I could either dodge it or face it head-on. Silly me decided to head-on.

Then again this wasn't about me anymore. I had to put aside any resentment I may be towards my parents to help Angel and his family out. He's been there with me through it all, and I needed to do the same. It's one thing to hold his hand when he's nervous but it's another to take the step for him to find him help, to find his dad help. It's what boyfriends do, at least I hope so.

Boyfriends. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

I made my way towards my parents' home office and knocked on the door. I slowly opened it and my mom looked up at me. She was fidgeting with some papers and had her reading glasses on.

"Can I talk to you for a moment?"

"Yeah come in Enano." I stepped in. "Shut the door, it's nice and cold in here."

"It's November."

"I nervous sweat."

I laughed a bit. "This is a huge favor not for me but Angel and his family." I twiddled with my thumbs and she took off her glasses and stared at me. "You see, Angel's dad is. . ." I cleared my throat. "He's in prison for a non-violent drug charge."

She sat back, I wasn't sure what to interpret that as.

"He's a good man, from what I'm told he was arrested when Angel was just a kid. He told me his dad was selling to help put his mom through medical school. The day before her final semester started he was caught. They arrested him and he was given fifteen years."

"This is federal or state prison?"

"Federal." I looked at her hoping she was asking questions to start putting together a file.

"Thanksgiving is in two days, does Angel and his family know about this idea of yours?"

"No, mami, just Angel." I was trying to butter her up.

"Why don't you let me talk to your dad tonight, let's also invite Angel and his family over for Thanksgiving dinner and we can discuss it with them.

"Really?" A smile grew on my face.

"Anything to help them out. Free of charge of course."

I rushed over behind her desk and wrapped my arms around her. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I squeezed her.

Those two days flew by faster than any other day of my life. When I told Angel the good news I heard him screaming over the phone. It was probably the happiest I've ever heard him sound. I even went over to his house to explain everything to his mom. She told us we were lucky she got Thanksgiving off that year and we definitely felt lucky. Elias was already on his way back home from Boston and he himself couldn't believe the news. I was definitely trying my best not to develop any sort of savior complex, I'll leave that up to the lawyers. Angel couldn't stop thanking me and no matter how much I told him it wasn't a problem and I wasn't the one doing the work, he still made me feel like I did something.
