I awoke to loud banging coming from the door, looking over I saw that Arnold was already awake. His eyes frantically searched mine. "What do we do?!"
"Kids? Open the door!" Our mother screeched.
Arnold, Grace and I shot up opening the closet door and running to the front door. Arnold flung the door open pulling mom in and slamming it again.
"Mom!" We breathed, dragging her in.
I glanced down to her arm my eyes frowning wide. Her olive skin was torn just below her shoulder. Blood seeped through the wound making a puddle around us.
"M-mom what happened?" I questioned as tears threatened to fall from my eyes.
"One of those.. Things, bit me."
-
"Mommy are you okay?" Grace questioned my mom as she laid next to her on the real colored bedding.
"Y-yes." She choked, spitting out more blood into her bowl.
"Mom-" I was interrupted by loud choking. I snapped my head over and saw my mother gagging on her own blood.
"Arnold! Help! Oh my god! Arnold hurry its mom! Help! Help!" I screeched. Running over to her, "Grace go to you room!"
"But I-"
"Now!"
Grace scurried away and I saw Arnold enter. "Mom!"
"K-kids." She spoke, "I- I lov- love you." Moving her eyes two Arnold, "take care of them."
"Mom?" I yell, shaking her hand violently. "Mom! Mom! Mommy please! Please!"
Two strong arms gripped my shoulders and pulled me back into there chest. "Shh, go with Grace. She needs you right now." He cooed smiling down to me. "Besides, she likes you more."
Tears fell from my eyes. She's gone. My mother, the one who fed me, nursed me, healed me. She's gone, I will never speak to her again. Never feel her cool hands wiping my tears when they fall. Never brushing my hair when I am sick. Never singing to me when I needed to be cheered up. She's gone. I never got to tell her how much I needed her disputed all the times I told her otherwise.
I pulled myself from Arnold and walked over to my mother. She laid on the bed, hair in tangles, blood seeping from her mouth. Her skin was pale, and her eyes were sunken in with dark circles covering them. I gave her a kiss on the forehead before taking my last look at her and leaving.
I brushed past Arnold and made my way to Graces room. She was lying underneath her bed, holding a brown teddy bear close to her heart and whispering kind words.
"Grace?" My voice was scratchy and in need of water.
She looked up and moved toward me, crashing her body into mine. "Wheres mommy?"
Before I had a chance to answer, I was interrupted by an ear piercing scream. Grace and I ran towards the noise and were shocked at our discovery.
My mother, once beautiful and full of life, was now pouncing onto my brother her clenching down onto his olive town skin and tearing it to shreds. Arnold hollered in pain, pushing her off and holding his arm close to his body.
"Arnold!" Grace shreiked running over to him only to be stopped by my arm.
"Grace no!" I yelled, dragging her out of the room. "Wait here!"
I ran back into the room where my brother was just recently attacked. Looking over I saw my mom laying over my brother surrounded by a pool of blood. Arnold was no longer breathing due to the bite mark taken out of his neck. "M-mom?"
She gurgle, shooting her head in my direction, her eyes were were no longer a calm baby blue; they where now infected with a green and orange substance that swirled around contaminating everything in its way.
I quickly turned around shutting the door and locking it from the inside.
"Wheres mommy?" Grace asked with tear stained cheeks.
"Mommy's sleeping."
