This one made me cry to write.

Mother's Day sucked. Sophie hated it. Seeing other kids with their moms was always a constant reminder that Sophie didn't have one. She tried to not let it bug her but she always felt a hole in her chest on the same day every year. She had mostly raised herself and learned to do all the things a mother was supposed to teach her daughter. It certainly made for some awkward learning experience when she was younger. Like the time she got her first period and bled through her white skirt. Finn was quick to cover her and send death glares at everyone, daring them to say a word. A basket of goodies from him and Sherry appeared on her doorstep later that day. They were her family.
Sophie stretched her legs in bed and reached over her sleeping best friend to grab her phone. She pulled up Sherry's contact and sent her a text.
Sophie: Happy Mother's Day, I love you
No more than fifteen seconds passed before a reply arrived.
Sherry: I love you too, my darling girl. Let me know if you need anything today.
Sophie smiled and closed her eyes. Sherry always looked out for her. It didn't fill the hole in Sophie's chest, but it did ease the pain.
Another text came through and Sophie gaped at her phone.
Dad: You don't need to respond. I just know today is going to be hard for you and I want you to know that I love you and I'm here for you.
She hadn't talked to her dad since the day at the cafe when he explained his relationship with Mavis. She had her family and was confident that when the time was right, the universe would bring her and her dad back together. She was just happy to have all of her questions finally answered.
"Hey, princess," Finn's voice rumbled. "You okay?"
Sophie nodded and sighed. "I'm okay, go back to sleep."
Finn immediately began snoring again and Sophie crawled out of bed, careful not to wake him. The house was quiet as she made her way downstairs, the only sounds coming from the kitchen. Sophie followed the noise of clanking pots and pans until she found Victor in the kitchen. She smiled at her broody man, watching him for a moment as he concentrated on cooking. He was so attractive. She was so proud of everything he had accomplished since she met him. Getting sober, going to therapy, getting the center up and running. She was amazed.
"You going to keep standing there ogling me, or are you going to come give me a good morning kiss, princesa?"
Sophie flushed crimson and ran into Victor's arms, letting him spin her. He enveloped her in a warm, passionate kiss and she melted into him like putty. He always had a way of making her head spin and her heart ache. The most passionate of her men. He lowered her to her feet and straightened out her pajama shorts. "Good morning, daddy."
Victor's eyes darkened. "Good morning, Sofia. You look exceptionally delicious today."
Sophie giggled and looked down at the stove where bacon was sizzling in a pan. Her stomach grumbled at the sight. "Yummy."
"Few more minutes, princesa. You want to help me set the table?"
Sophie nodded and got to work setting the table, wanting to say something, but unsure how to say it. She was never great with uncomfortable conversations. "Hey, Vic?"
"Hm?"
She finished setting the table and began fidgeting with her fingers. "H-How do you deal with Mother's Day?"
