Gods, it has been forever since I've properly meditated. Lately, I've only had about an hour to meditate when I usually take anywhere from four to eight hours. It sucks. So bad. Oh, sorry about that. Where are my manners today? I'm Celestia Basileous, apprentice to Astria, the Greek goddess of the stars. Cool right? I guess. I mean, I live on Polaris for Zeus' sake. But no matter how much I love the stars, it still gets repetitive. So Astria sent me down here, to Earth. Before I continue, let me explain the whole apprentice thing. Immortality is a concept but it doesn't necessarily mean that we stay in our true forms forever. So the gods take on apprentices. That means that the child is taught basically how to be a god. After the god gives up their position as well, god, their apprentice is given the job. When they're in their human forms, they keep the name they were born with. But when they take on their true forms, they become the god they were trained to be.
So when Astria steps down, I will become the new goddess of the stars. The number one rule though, never tell anyone your true name. Names are extremely powerful in my world. They could end someone. I only told you since, well, you're in an alternate universe or whatever. Now that we're pass that little explanation of my world, let's get back to the good stuff.
In Florida, there's a small town that goes by the name of Meteor Falls. Apparently, it's one of the best places to stargaze. We'll have to see about that. So I found an abandoned hotel and took shelter there. It was actually pretty nice there. I was sitting in the middle of the floor under a skylight where I could properly see the stars when a guy, a very hot guy at that, literally ran into me. Well, more like tripped over me. But still! It kinda hurt but I lived, obviously. I fell back, catching myself on my elbows before jumping back up to face him with my daggers. Oddly enough, he pulled out a sonic screwdriver. I scoffed mentally at the thought. What could a sonic screwdriver do to a hunting dagger?
Apparently, it wasn't an average sonic screwdriver, if there was such a thing. He pressed a small button on the side and it grew until it was a large sword made of stygian iron. By the way, stygian iron is a special type of metal that's made in the Underworld. This boy also had a strange aura around him, like he was to be feared by death itself. Honestly, he was so hot that he was intimidating but it was sexy. Sorry. This is a bit awkward now. Anyways, my daggers are made of stella silver which basically means they were forged and cooled in a star. This gives them a special property, the ability to absorb starlight and become more powerful.
So we crashed and faced off for a bit before one of us spoke up. "Who are you?" I kept my daggers up as I spoke, not willing to show weakness or fear. But damn, he was making me a bit weak in the knees with the look on his face. Oh, wait. Uh, just forget that whole sentence. He's standing behind me as I write this and well, let's just say that my stalker side is coming out. Things might get a bit heated if you know what I mean. Okay, I'm done with that. I'm sorry that you had to read that.
"I think you should be answering me." He winked at me, expecting some sort of reaction. Well, my knees did get a bit weak but that's it, I swear. He pouted lightly when he didn't see anything. I smirked back at him.
"I was here first. But I'll tell you if you really want me to." I stood normally but I didn't put my twins away. And when I say twins, I mean my twin daggers. I may have a (very) dirty mind, but I'm not a whore. He raised an eyebrow but also stood, his sword shrinking back to a sonic screwdriver. "I am the apprentice to Astria, goddess of the stars. And you?" I sheathed my daggers again and looked at him expectantly.
"I am the apprentice of nunyo business." Dropping into the formal curtsey and bow apprentices were supposed to use in greeting, we looked up as our bodies went down. "Actually Hades, but close enough." He smirked and my lips quirked up in a grin. "So Astria huh?"
"Yeah Hades. Must be... interesting." He snickered softly and was about to reply when he was cut off by the howling of dogs. But these howls were different. They sounded... deadly. Like they wanted to rip my throat out, not lick my face playfully. "Hellhounds." At the same time, we took on our true forms, my hair growing out and becoming the stars and him growing another two feet and sprouting two sets wings. "Of course. You tower over me in both forms." I pouted playfully then turned back to the closed doors, my daggers now in my hands and at the ready.
"Aw don't worry. Maybe I'll let you take a ride later." He snickered and smirked.
"What kind of ride?" A grin spread across my cheeks.
"Any kind. As long as you're rough." He replied with the confidence of a god. Technically, he is a god, or pretty damn close to one. Either way, he still sounded confident. I purred at him playfully, which he replied to with a throaty growl. Before the flirting could go any farther, the door in front of us exploded. And no, it wasn't like the movies. If anything, it was the complete opposite. The hellhounds ran through and started to circle us, making us press our backs together.
"This will be fun." Sarcasm laced my voice and a hound launched itself at me. I stepped forward and thrust my daggers up into its neck. It let out a yelp of pain and collapsed to the floor, crumbling until it was no more than a pile of dust. Hounds launched themselves at me, one after another falling. The dust pile at my feet grew until it seemed to be more of a child's mountain of sand.
Soon enough, all of the hounds were turned to dust. I panted as sweat ran down my back and neck in rivulets. "Well, that's one activity that makes me hot and sweaty." I rested my hands on my knees, the galaxies in my hair falling over my shoulder. He stood behind me, his breathing heavy and tired.
"Maybe we can try the other later." He joked. I let out a soft chuckle and stood normally. Sheathing my daggers, I looked him over with my hands placed on my hips firmly.
"Maybe. But for now, we have more important things to worry about. Like who sent those hellhounds and why." I bit my lip in thought gently. "Who would want to attack the apprentices of the stars and the Underworld?" That was my main question. What did I do to anyone? I've been up on Polaris for years and came down not too long ago. Whatever.
He shrugged and took on his human form. I followed his lead soon after. "I have no idea. But staying here is not the best idea." I show my agreement with a nod and look over at him.
"I'm going to get my bag. Any ideas on where we should go?" I walked into an adjoining room and grabbed my duffel bag that held clothes, food, and extra things I needed. He looked at me curiously.
"We? Hun, I work alone. But my offer always stands." He smirked and leaned against the wall behind him. "I'm not supposed to team up with anyone, no matter how hot they are." He shrugged and smirked as a blush dusted my cheeks lightly.
"Whoever it is, they're after both of us. Or else those hellhounds wouldn't have chased you here." I crossed my arms in an attempt to be serious.
"Whatever. But don't expect me to be carrying you when your feet start hurting." I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
"Lets just go. We need to decide where to go next." He pushed off the wall and walked over to me.
"New York? I heard something weird is going on over there." I nodded and looked at him.
"You shadow travel, correct?" He nodded and I grinned. "What are your limits?" He thought for a moment before answering.
"850 miles, give or take." A smirk took over my lips and he looked at me a bit confused. "What?"
"I can get us there in one go." He shrugged and looked down at me.
"I'm still taller." I pouted at that and rolled my eyes. Grabbing his arm, I projected us to the top of the Empire State Building. "Oh. This probably isn't the best place to be at the moment." I looked down and frowned.
"Welcome to New York." He said with a slight chuckle.
