Adina's POV

***DAY 1 OUTDOORS***

I awake looking at my surroundings feeling momentarily confused when it hits me that I had to run away from my home last night. Not even the birds chirping in the early morning sunshine that manages to pass through the leafy trees could make me feel any better.

"Sissy?" A quiet voice whimpers below me. I look down at my sister in time to see her rubbing the sleep from her eyes and giving me a scrunched up face.

"What is it honey?" I whisper. She huffs a little and shivers.

"I'm cold,"

"I'm sorry sweetie I didn't bring any blankets or jackets,"

"Can't we just go home?" When she asks this I can't help but feel like that was a slap to the face. If only it was that simple, child.

"Nope," I say simply while standing up and stretching. I take in our surroundings and decide we can't stay out here for to long. Well, Adelina can't.

"Come on," I command grabbing Adelina's small hand and start walking around the wood, the only sound of crunching trigs and rustling of our shoes being dragged. Finally spotting an opening in the woods, we trudge over to it where I see a small park starting to fill with older people.

Deciding that it was probably not my best idea, but the right thing to do I start to set my plan into action. I mean I have no diapers, no clothes for her to change into, let alone food, I have to do this.

"Adelina, you need to listen to me sweetie," I begin. Her bright eyes look at me when I stand crouched down to her height. She nods.

"I'm going to bring you to that bench over there and I'm going to leave... without  you,"

Tears gather in her eyes and her bottom lip starts to tremble when she realizes that I'm going to leave her.

"Hey, hey! No tears now... Its for your own good!" I assured her, wiping away the flood of tears. She holds onto my hand that was still placed on her cheek.

"You still wuv me, right?" I'm quick to wrap my arms around her with her head nestled into my neck, tears starting to form in my own eyes.

Be strong for her, she needs to know its okay.

"Of course baby, I could never stop loving you," I reassure her while rubbing her back and calming my self down, still trying to keep the tears in.

"Forever and awlways?" She recites to me something we tell each other when things are tough or we just need reassurance of each other's company.

"Yeah, forever and always" I say back. She pulls back from the embrace and when apart, she heaves a long sigh.

"I want mommy," she whimpers. I nod my head to signal I heard her. I stand to my full height and before entering the park fully, I whisper into the days humid air,

"Me too kiddo, me to," grabbing her hand we walk side by side where we start to put my plan into action.
*****************

The sun beats on my back dispite the shade from the many trees around me. I lean against the ceder tree in front of me where I have the best eyes on my sister. She stands by the bench looking up at a pair of cardinals that fly by, making her let out one of her cute giggles.

"Birdy!" She gasps.

"Sit on the bench Adelina!" I mutter hoping she would listen, but with me being across the park from her it was really pointless.

"Birdy! Birdy, birdy, bir-"

With all the skipping and hopping Adelina was doing, she lost her step and had fell right onto her knees, probably scraping them right up.

"Oh no," I gawked, knowing what was sure to happen.

Just as expected, she blew up like a volcano. Tears cascade down her face as she let's out gut wrenching sobs into the cement sidewalk.

Everyone in the park seems to stop what there soon just to stare at the fallen kid who was crying. Moms had hands held to there faces as they sympathize over her, dads shaking there heads as it to say 'been there before'. Just when I think I need to get out there and help my sister, someone else swoops in to help her instead.

"Oh, honey! Don't worry we'll get you all cleaned up soon! No need to cry," a women with short black wavy hair and a loose Dallas cowgirls T-shirt says. Order seems to be restored in the park and everyone gets back to what they were doing before.

Now I'm standing here behind the ceder tree, watching the only family I have left being carried away into a strangers arms.
