(Y/n)'s POV

The next morning, I was awoken by Amber for once, being beaten by the over enthusiastic Outrider as she shook me awake.
"Wake up (Y/n)! Jean wants to talk to you." The brunette exclaims as I sleepily open my eyes, before letting out a chuckle of amusement.
"I'm surprised that you woke up before me today." I say, as I begin to get up and prepare for the big day ahead.
"Well, I haven't gotten to spend much time with you lately since you always leave before me. For once, I wanted to be the one to greet you." The brunette begins as she flashes me a smile. I release a breath that I didn't realize I was holding, glad that my newfound friend wasn't there to see the parcel, or the Cavalry Captain's threatening letter. It would surely complicate things and if the Outrider had, then she likely wouldn't continue to grace me with her wonderful smile. I think to myself soberly as I mentally curse myself for my carelessness while she continues. "The other reason is because Jean asked me to get you at once. Said she had no time to waste but that it was confidential." The amber eyed lady finishes, cheeks puffing in annoyance. "I know that I can't know everything about all the missions that go on in the Knights of Favonius, but at the very least she could have come to get you herself instead of dropping such tantalizing morsels of knowledge." Amber grumbles, upset at being left out of the loop. Sympathy and guilt fills my chest, fate always had a way of rubbing things in. Secrecy hurts people. Just like our relationship, built on lies and half truths.

"She may like me now but that's because of who she thinks I am. I doubt she would if she knew what Kaeya did." I think to myself, though I couldn't tell her the truth even if I wanted to. Like always the dark voice that haunts my nightmares laughs coldly. That unbearable voice that won't leave me alone, always showing itself when I'm at my weakest. Despite how much I try to fight it, I can't help but slowly convince myself that what it whispers is true.
"They'll never know the real you, only ruin you." It begins with malice. "You know the rules. When that time happens — and it will — you know how this is going to end, no point fighting it. You should just give in." It finishes, words dripping with feigned sweetness filled with poisoned honey and obsession. A grim reminder of her predicament. I hate that I know it's right. I think to myself, sighing once more mentally as I compose myself, before responding to the golden eyed female in front of me.
"I understand how you feel. I'm sure that The Acting Grandmaster has her reasons for keeping this from you for now. I doubt she wants to keep you in the dark." I say as I try to comfort the other girl.
"Thanks (Y/n), I know it's irrational of me to be so miffed, but it's hard to help it sometimes." Amber begins as she tucks a lock of long brown hair back into place behind her ear. " Anyway, I won't keep you any longer, you must get going and I've got a meeting with Lisa." The Outrider exclaims as she gently shoos me out the door.
