Jackson and I never spoke when we got home. I helped him shift the boxes and I checked myself, forcing my lips into a smile. After a few moments of forcing the fake smile onto my lips, I headed out to the car and headed back to school.
I arrived just as the bell went off and people spilled out of school in anticipation of the weekend ahead of them.
I was leaning against my car door and I saw Evan first. He said something to a girl who shot a look over to me, her eyes widening before she turned back to Evan and started talking.
I averted my eyes and looked to the doors, waiting for the familiar face to pop up.
"So how come you weren't in Math today?" His smooth voice caught me off guard and I hadn't realised that he'd moved away from the girl.
"I, er, what?" I mentally kicked myself for the brain failure in that moment.
"I said, how come you weren't in math today?"
"I had to sort out some things. Personal stuff." I shrugged. I wasn't exactly lying, but I wasn't saying where I had been either.
"Oh."
That was all he said.
I saw Klara leave the building and shot her a look as she scanned the parking lot for me.
"Look, I've gotta go. Klara's here." He looked shocked by my bluntness but shrugged. "Have a good weekend."
"I'll drop by the math work tomorrow. What time is Klara leaving?" I raised an eyebrow at him and rolled my eyes.
"Around two. I won't be free till six."
"See you at six then." Without another word, he disappear, leaving me confused as Klara finally reached me.
"What was that all about?"
"He was just telling me that he'd drop off my stuff for Math tomorrow. I think he's gonna copy it for me or something, I don't know?"
"You know, since his dad shipped him here twelve months ago, you're the first person apart from his sister that he's bothered to talk to. Willingly, that is." She added on after a second and I shrugged as we got in my car.
"Who cares. You ready for a girl night?"
"Hell yeah! Oh, and guess what?!" I felt a smirk on my lips at her excitement. I already knew what was coming.
"I don't know, I'm not telepathic."
"Well, someone delivered me an envelope this morning and inside were two VIP tickets to see Paramore when they're here."
"I know."
"How did you know?" I shot a glance at her and raised an eyebrow, turning my attention back to the road once more.
"Guess."
"I don't know, telepathy?" She teased and we both giggled. "But seriously, how did you know?"
"Just wait and see." I grinned at her. She didn't pester me further as we made our way back to the house.
Once we were inside, my mom greeted her and it was nice to see that she was cool with having another girl around.
"It's been a long time since she had a friend besides her brother." At this, my cheeks turned pink and they both laughed.
"It's the first time someone's bothered to make friends with me." At this, my mom gave a me a look which told me she was proud of me.
"Well you've got a loyal friend my girl. Scarlett is ever the one to be protective of the people with whom she is close to." At this, Klara flashed a bright smile at my mom.
