I help Alex up, and he holds onto my side as I lead him out of the restaurant. Rosie and Jake trail behind me with their faces looking horrified. I ruffle Rosie's hair and smile at Jake.
"It's going to be okay, we're just going for a walk." I say, masking my pained expression with a fake cheery one, just so I wont worry them.
Alex holds his face and I try to hold him up with all my might but from being naturally skinny and my not eating in weeks kind of drains me of any strength so it takes all of me to drag him outside and to the nearest gas station. I collapse down beside him when we finally make it there.
Rosie sits beside me and so does Jake, they look completely unaware of anything that's happening. what I don't know is how I'm going to help Alex when I don't even know how to take care of myself, let alone two other little kids, who I dragged into this mess, voluntarily.
yeah, I still think I made a stupid choice of bringing them along . . . . but like I said I didn't have a choice.
Alex lays his head on my shoulder and whimpers lightly.
I sit there awkwardly not knowing what to do, or where to go.
"apartment." is all I hear him whisper.
"what" I ask, moving closer to hear.
"I've my own apartment . . . ." he looks up at me his blue eyes looking into my light green hazel ones.
"Can you take me there?" he asks, even though I know for sure I will not be able to get him there I stupidly agree.
"I'll try my best, Alex." I say quietly.
"Thank you, Clair."
