when he came back with the food we took seconds to devore it all and Alex just stood there amazed at lhow fast we ate.
"how long have you guys lasted without food?" He asked, a look of sadness in his eyes as he looked at Rosie and Jake scarping the bottom of their plates.
"Weeks." i said not bothering to really listen to him, i was trying to take in as much food as my mouth would allow at once.
"Would you guys like some more--"
we all yelled "YES" at once and Alex chucled and shook his head as he left the room. my heart was aching watching my little sibilings acting so desprate. i was desprate myself. i mean . . . . i was so hungry, i dint really care where the food came from as long as i had some.
i felt Rosie tug on my sleeve and i smiled at her.
"Yes?"
"Can i um have some um . . . water?" she asked me sweetly and i smiled at how sweet she was being.
"You can ask Alex when he gets back, im sure he'll say yes." i said. she smiled and noded and went back to scraping her plate clean.
when Alex walked back in, Rosie immeaditaly walked over to him.
"Can i-um . . . have some water?" she asked sweetly, looking down at her feet. Alex lifted her chin with is index finger lightly.
"Anything you want sweetheart." he said softly, ruffling her hair.
he caught me smiling at him, and my face turned red.
"She's sweet." he said, when he came back from fetching Rosie and Jake and I some water.
"Yeah . . . " i mumble,, sipping my water, now im completly full and i feel sleepy.
"Why is that?" he asked.
"i dont know . . . she's always been quiet . . . especially after . . . my dad beat her." i say, and i can literaly see Alex flex his arm mucles. his eyes filled with hurt and sadness.
"Why would he do that?" he asked,, his voice cracking.
"He hit us all even me and my mom and Jake." i tried to keep my voice low in case of them over hearing us.
Alex looked at me with a pained exspression.
"Yeah . . . i know that feeling." hje siad and my head jerks up.
"How--" the door suddenly swings open and a big man with a beared storms in, glaring at me and then Jake then Rosie and when his eyes land on Alex,, i see his fist clench.
