*1 week later*
"Lauren!" Soda burst through the door of my room panting like a dog.
"What the heck?" I said, " What happened?"
"Johnny! Pony!"
"What, what? Are they hurt? Did the Socs get them? Did Dally go too far? What?" Soda please tell me!" I was scared and I could here the terror in his voice. I was scared for him, but even more scared for Johhny and Pony.
"They went out last night... because Darry... and then the Socs... and Pony was in the fountain... and Johnny didn't know what to do... and now they're dead! Jay mountain! The church!" That was all he said before he passed out.
*Soda's POV*
I woke up and was immediately terrified again. Then I looked around and realized that I was in Lauren's bed. She was sitting above me with a worried expression on her face.
"Hey," she said quietly.
"Hi," It came out barely a whisper. I was so out of breath. "How long have I been out?'
"Half an hour," she said," So, we're gonna take it nice and slow Easy questions first."
Her tone made me relax a bit. It was prying, yet still compassionate. Worried but still brave.
"Why did Pony and Johnny go out last night and where?"
"They went to the lot and fell asleep. They got home at two in the morning and Darry got real mad. I tried to get Pony to go to bed but Darry wouldn't let 'em. So the fighting went on until Darry..." My voice trailed off. It was so horrible. I took a deep breath. "Darry hit him."
Lauren gasped a little at this but motioned for me to continue.
"So, Pony took off and went to the park with Johnny. From what I've heard, some damn Socs pulled up and it got real messy from there. They ended up trying to drown Pony so Johnny took his blade and killed Bob. Killed 'em..."
At this point I started to cry. I couldn't help it. But I had to keep going with the story.
"Then Pony and Johnny went to Dally at Buck's. He told them to go to Jay mountain and stay there. They're there right now. Up in the old church."
"Soda," Lauren said. When you came in here hollering, you said that they were dead. Now, I understand that you were all messed up but you scared me to death!"
Her voice was a little angry, but quickly dissapeared.
"But I know this is hard."
"I'm sorry, I said." She pulled me into a hug and I felt better.
"I better go home, the fuzz will be showing up soon."
"Ok," she said quietly. "Come by if you need anything."
"I will," I promised. Then I walked home... I wish that I hadn't.
*Lauren's POV*
"Poor Soda," I thought, as I walked to his house. It was the day after the boys' incident happened and I hoped that Soda was better. I couldn't stand to see him sad. I loved him. But it could never be. He loved Sandy. With all his heart. You could see it in his eyes. The way he looked at her. He was hopelessly and utterly in love.
I walked into the Curtis home and immediately ran to his room. I opened the door and saw that he was crying. I ran to him and embraced him.
"Soda, they'll be alright. Everything will be fine, they're smart kids. And besides..." I was cut off by him.
"No," he shouted,"You don't understand! Everything is falling apart!"
"Soda, I do understand. Maybe not fully because I'm not Pony's sibling, but I understand that you're hurting!"
"No you don't. You never do! She used me! I thought she loved me!" Have you ever experienced having someone that you love ripped away from you?Loved someone with all your heart for them not to care?
He was screaming now, and I was getting scared. What does he mean by she?
"Soda, I do!"
"Who? Who can it possibly be?" He was standing up now and was fuming mad. Why doesn't he see? Can't he tell that I love him? How can he not pay attention to my feelings? How can he be so naive?
"You!" I screamed," I love you Soda! Can't you tell? Or are you that naive, that blind. I can't believe you! All of us are hurting too! And you love Sandy, not me. We all loved Pony and Johnny! And you're acting like none of us understand! Don't you know that I just helped you yesterday? You're such a jerk!"
I slammed the door right in his face and ran out of the house. I cried while I ran and was so steaming mad and hurt that I knocked over Two-Bit.
"Hey Lauren," he said. But his smile quickly disapeared when I said...
"Tell Soda that I never want to see him again! Tell him to get out of my life!" Then I ran away.
