I decided against Hazel doing my makeup for this picnic, but that was okay because (and I quote) Hazel said she had to get business done with Noah. I was locked in my room with Rachel, who was standing at the door to make sure I didn't escape. "You can't see the food of your first picnic with him. It's like a groom seeing his bride's dress before the actual wedding."
So I just had to get on with it. My mind told me it wasn't anything fancy, so I just wore a pair of tight, black leather-looking leggings and a tight white t-shirt that had a pocket in the left breast. I matched it with white ankle socks and my white Converse (that I washed, finally). Rachel gave me a necklace that was long, and it had a little golden owl on it. The accessory reached to just above my belly-button and it was pretty.
I did my makeup the way I always do it. Foundation, concealer, a little bit of bronzer to contour, a tiny wing of eyeliner, mascara and my red tinted EOS lip balm. Lipstick and I don't get on, so I just don't bother. My hair was left down in loose curls that Rachel did. She is the master of hair and I really would've been lost without her little tips.
"I think I'm going to college this year." Rachel shouts over the music that was blaring so I didn't hear the secretive talks Noah and Hazel were having over food, if you can take in that nonsense.
"Really?" I question. "That's great! Doing what?"
"I think I want to do child counselling."
"That would suit you so well." I smile the brightest smile I have all day. It was true. Rachel was great with kids, and when Hazel had a rough patch with Travis Rachel was like a real counsellor for her. Needless to say, the two are still going strong. There was a loud knock at the door. "Yes?" Rachel shouts to the anonymous caller.
"It's Hazel. We're ready."
Rachel took out the key from her bra and unlocked the door. Goodness knows why she guarding the door. Like I was going to grab a key from her bra. I stop my music before leaving the room. "Hi Hazel."
Hazel waggles her fingers at me. Rachel joins my friend's side and they knuckle-touch. "Good job." Hazel murmurs. "You too." Rachel hisses back.
"You two bitches are amazing and you should be ashamed of your sneakiness. I love you for that." A voice appears from across the room.
"Is this the part where you kiss?"
I run up to Noah and throw my arms around him. I haven't seen him since last night and it was... weird. "Hi, chick."
I smile at Noah. His eyes were bright. "You're a trouble maker."
"And you know it." Noah finishes for me. "Thanks girls, but we're off. You can help yourselves to the food in the fridge, just not my Doritos. Rachel knows the consequences of that mistake." Rachel laughs, putting her finger under a lock of her chocolate hair and tucking it behind her ear. "The level of tickling is astonishing. Never. Again." She says to Hazel and I.
I whack Noah in the arm. "For the tickling." I deadpan before he can question the random slap.
"You hit like a girl."
"I am a girl, Noah."
He just laughs before pushing me out the front door and yelling "Bye!" to my friends.
I'm driven to an empty, seemingly un-homed hill. It seemed to be empty and bland until we hiked to the top where I found a giant oak tree. Fairy lights were strung around the branches and the bottom layer of leaves and it was absolutely beautiful. "Noah." I manage to spit out, stunned. I look out to the view which was nothing but the stars in the sky and the sleeping town far away. It was magical, and it was also now my favourite place.
