Against the Unknown

Chapter 4

~Evan's POV~

I can't believe it... Scott's dead... His body is just lying there... his head bloody and mangled, his leg crushed. "Come on," I say, putting my hand on Seb's shoulder, "We have to keep moving," I walk away from the memory of Scott. The hissing rings in my ears. As we get closer to the end of the cave, we begin to hear Ellie crying. I turn to Seb and put my finger to my lips, signalling for him to keep quiet. A lizard looks our way and we dive behind a rock. It scampers passed us, so I run up behind it and hit it full force in the head with my pole. It falls motionless to the ground. I look over the rock and Cadi sees me. She smiles, probably for the first time in a while. Ellie, Alesha and Cadi are all tide to a large rock in the middle of an opening in the cave. I peer around the wall and see several lizards picking meat off of a dead rabbit. I ran forward and swing my pole, knocking a few lizards into the wall. Seb then comes and hits lizards, squashing them into the ground. More lizards come flooding out of cracks and crevices in the walls. Just as we both raise our weapons, we hear a familair voice. "Stop!" we turn and see the biggest surprise we've had since we got into this godforsaken forest: Georgia. Holding a knife to Cadi's throat. "Drop your poles or she gets it," she threatens, "DO IT!" she shouts, making a loud echo shake the cave. We do as we say.
"Georgia what are you doing?" Seb asks.
"My friend and I-"
"Friend?" I interrupt.
"Oh yes, I forgot! Come on out!" she says. Lauren walks out from behind her.
"Lauren!?" Seb asks.
"No, it's Gandhi! Yes it's me you idiot!" she says mockingly. "We've been plotting against you for weeks! Training these lizards in secret. None of you expected a thing!" Suddenly, an arrow shoots past, straight into Georgia's hand. She drops the knife and loses it amongst the crowd of lizards. Kate runs towards us holding a crossbow, followed by everyone else, who are all armed with either daggers or butcher's knives. Seb picks up his pole and throws it, hitting both Georgia and Lauren unconscious. This angers the lizards, causing them to throw themselves at me and Seb. "Guys!" Kate shouts. She throws two knives. We both catch one and simultaneously throw them at a lizard. Both lizards die instantly. We retrieve our knives and go through the lizard army, killing off as many as we can. The others do the same. Seb and I make our way towards the girls and cut the ropes, freeing them. We then turn and I hit several the lizards away with my pole, leaving a clear path for us to get out. I tell the girls to run and they do with a second thought. I run over to Georgia and Lauren and Seb does the same. I pick up Georgia and Seb picks up Lauren. I then take some rope with me and return to the surface. When we get there, we sit Lauren and Georgia against a tree and tie them to it. We'll get some answers out of them in the morning.

~Alesha's POV~

We're finally out of that hell hole! Away from those disgusting reptiles. And we have Seb and Evan to thank, mostly. I turn to Cadi and Ellie. "We should go and thank the boys," I say.
"Yeah, you're right!" exclaims Cadi. We make our way over to Evan and Seb, who are lying up against a log, panting and eating away at a cooked lizard.
"Hi guys," I say. They look up at us and smile. "We just wanted to thank you. We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you!"
"Guys, come on it wasn't just us!" Evan says modestly, "Kate saved Cadi's life with that crossbow shot!"
"Yeah but she wouldn't have known to come looking if it wasn't for you! She told us about the note you left," Cadi says.
"And you were the one who knocked Georgia and Lauren unconscious, Seb!" Ellie points out. The boys smile once more.
"Well you're welcome! It was the least we could do for our friends," Seb says. They stand up and the five of us all hug. I realise how lucky I am to have friends like this.
