Against the Unknown

Chapter 5

~Kate's POV~

I never expected cooked lizard to be so nice! It tastes like chicken, just a bit tougher. As I dig my teeth into it, grease dribbles down my chin. "Hey! Evan and Seb!" I shout, "What happened to Scott?" they look at each other sadly.
"He's dead!" Georgia shouts. I didn't even know she was conscious.
"How did you know?" Evan asks her. She smiles a wicked smile.
"What did you think the lizards were eating?" she says, laughing madly, "They can't live off rabbits forever!"
"But... he died behind us! There was no way the lizards could get to him without-"
"There are a lot of secret tunnels in their, you know! I sent them to see what all the noise was and they brought back his body. I let them eat him!" Evan and Seb both get up, clenching their fists. I stand in front of them.
"Calm down guys, we need her alive," I persuade them. They sit back down.
"You're lucky you have answers, you bitch!" spits Seb through gritted teeth.
"Rude!" mocks Lauren. Anna walks towards the two girls, I follow.
"Okay you foul, loathsome fucking cockroaches, where do all the lizards come from?" asks Anna.
"Eggs, obviously," Lauren answers, teasing us.
"And where are the eggs!?" I shout. We receive no answer. I raise my crossbow and point it at Georgia's head. "I swear to fucking God I will end you," I threaten. She smiles at me, still saying nothing. I walk away and shoot a nearby tree in anger.
"Hey Kate," Alesha calls, "Where did you get the weapons?"
"I found an old shack when I was gathering rocks earlier, it must have belonged to a hunter or something. It was probably meant for killing deer but so help me I will use it on that girl!"

~Anna's POV~

"I can't fucking take this anymore, Kate!" I whisper. It's night time and everyone except from myself, Kate and Georgia are asleep. Kate and I have been trying to get answers out of Georgia for hours, to no avail. We're now sitting out of ears reach from Georgia, considering what we could do. "There's nothing more to do!"
"We have to keep trying or the lizards won't stop coming!"
"How can we stop them if that reptile queen over there won't give us bloody answers!?"
"I don't know but-"
"I'm not their queen," Georgia says. I swiftly look over. This is the first time she's spoken all night.
"What?" I ask.
"I said, I'm not their queen!"
"Then who is?" Kate pushes her towards telling us. Georgia waits a while...
"The mother. She's huge. Almost ate me once! There's no way you're taking that beast down,"
"You're lying! You wouldn't tell us! You wouldn't want us to take it down if it really is existed!"
"Oh she's real! Which is why I want you to know about her! I want you to go down there and get destroyed. I want you to burn in her stomach acids. I want you to go-" slice. I throw my knife straight at her and it penetrates her forehead. Her eyes roll back and she's gone. I take my knife out of her head she flops forward. I grab her hair and slam her head against the tree, she stays upright. Blood runs out of the gaping hole, down her face and drips onto her lap. I walk away and hear Kate firing shots. I look back and see 5 arrows lodged in her throat.
"That bitch had it coming," I announce, before seeing one last arrow fly into her mouth, coming out the other side of her head and sticking in the tree. We leave her there to rot.
