Perfect Doesn’t Last Forever- Chapter 11

My life really had the potential to be perfect again and I really thought my life was on the road to recovery.  In the past two weeks, my life was becoming routine again: wake up, breakfast with Damien and Hayley, daycare drop-offs, school, Noah, parents, and then back to Damien’s.  I could live every day on a schedule like I used to, before Hayley, for the first time since starting college and everything was finally balanced.  Every day, by the time I got back to Damien’s I still had a solid four hours to study every night while Damien focused more on Hayley.  I participated in bedtime every night and bathed her occasionally, but other than that I was right on track with school.

“Mamaaaaa,” Hayley sang from her spot in the living room.  “Maaamaaa!”

“Yeah baby?” I answered her, finishing my sentence in my textbook before looking to her.  “What color is that?”

She lifted the three blocks from her pile and waved them at me, “perr-pull, red, ore-ange.” She got them all correct, but still had a hard time saying purple and orange, just as the daycare told us.

“Right Hales, purple, red and orange,” I told her as I pointed to the corresponding blocks, emphasizing the correct pronunciation of purple and orange.

“Purr-pal,” she repeated, tossing the blocks aside and returning to stack them up as high as she could.  “Or-unge.”

“Good job Hayley,” I commended her for semi-correcting herself. Hayley was so bright and the teachers at daycare were already beginning to recommend that we move her to a preschool to get her enrolled into a private school to accelerate her education.  Damien and I were both super proud of Hayley, especially since neither of us was particularly advanced education wise, but we weren’t sure if we wanted her start school earlier than kids her age.

“Guh-reen, blue, yeh-row,” she continued as she piled the blocks up high.  I watched her with a wide smile before turning back to my books.  Only four more pages, I repeated to myself as I read.  Four more pages and then I could spend my weekend doing more pleasurable things.

“RAWR!” Damien bellowed, entering the room and towering over Hayley and her blocks.  “Here comes the monster!”

“Noooo!” Hayley screeched, climbing to her feet to block Damien from her blocks.  “Mine! Go away monster!”

“Fee-fi-fo-fum!” Damien thundered, easily plucking Hayley off the ground and into his arms.  “Good morning bunny!”

“Daddy!!” She giggled as he tickled her stomach.

“Hey Britt,” Damien smiled, sitting down on the couch beside me.  “Did you feed Hayley yet?”

            I nodded, “bananas and yogurt.”

“Yummy,” Damien said, cradling Hayley in his lap.  “Do you have any plans today?”

“Well,” I paused, placing my finger at my place in my book.  “I’m probably going to go over to Powell to research for a paper I have to write for my Environmental Law class after I finish this chapter of my Socio book.  What about you?”

“Probably going to take Hayley over to my parents,” he shrugged, placing Hayley back in front of her blocks.  “They’ve been begging to see her and then we’re probably going to stay for dinner since Brad and Bella are coming over.”
