Perfect Doesn't Last Forever

Author's Note

So this is the end of "Perfect Doesn't Last Forever."  

I know a lot of people were really mad about Damien and Brittany not being together, but the whole point of my writing this was to show that this "perfect-nuclear family" is not something that is naturally occuring.  When you have kids, you have to be ready, you have to be ready to give up your own life for the life of your child and if you aren't ready to do that, resenment sets in and you just begin to start hating your life.  Now I'm not saying it's always like this, some people are ready to have kids whenever they get pregnant, whether it be at a young age, or older, some people do not actively plan to have kids.  However, in this same vain, not everyone is ready for the surprise of having kids. 

As a teenager, you haven't really lived yet.  This was a conflict Brittany was constantly fighting.  She wanted to have this perfect family because that was the path that she was put on, but she didn't choose it and while playing family was nice for her in the beginning, she realized it wasn't the path she wanted.  She didn't get to have the regular teenage experience that most people are lucky to have.  

When you are a teenager, everything is magnified and, for me, that was the reason for Brittany's irrationality.  She is so set on one thing, the drive to get that is magnified and she will do anything to get what she wants, but at the same time, when she doesn't get what she wants she's going to get hit hard.  Especially since her original life plan was so pushed off course she is going to do whatever she can to get what she wants, to experience the life she wanted, and to make sure, while taking care of her daughter, that she is still happy; and eventually that happiness runs its course and Brittany made her choice.  

Personally I find teenagers/young adults inherently selfish.  They are looking for themselves and therefore looking out for themselves only, no one else.  

As a writer I don't usually find the need to defend my writing or my story, but I think that it is important for me to pass on this analysis that I had in my head to help educate my readers.  You may not agree with me, but to each their own. 

So please people, please be careful when you have sex.  Remember to be safe!
