Dusk

Ashley

I sat in bed listening to who was up. It was six in the morning and from what I could tell Hayley's parents where awake along with Jasmine and her children. I listened to see if Hayley was awake, but I couldn't hear anything not even her breathing. I swung back the covers and swung my legs round over the bed. I stumbled to the door and over to Hayley's room across the corridor. Still half asleep I fumbled for then handel, I twisted it an pushed open the door. At first I thought she was there, I rub end my eyes and the room became clear. I walked over to the bed and pulled back the covers, it was just a pile of cushions. I thought maybe she would have left me a message on my phone. I walked back to my room a bit more awake now and fished in my bag for my phone. I was right a message from Hayley. It read, gone to the beach join me when your more awake. I jumped in the shower and slipped on my shorts and vest grabbed a towel and a drink shoved them in my bag and headed out the door. Phone in one hand shoes in the other I trudged down the stairs and right out of the front door.

As I walked down the street people gave me weird looks, that said who the hell are you? I kept my eyes to the ground and carried on walking, heading for the beach. I almost walked into someone. "Hey watch it man!" The guy shouted in my face. "Chill dude".

"Did you just tell me to chill?"

"Ye, what you going to do about it?" He shoved me back. "Away then tough guy". He tried to aggravate me. It was working, being a werewolf didn't exactly mean we where blessed with self control especially when it came to anger. I pushed him back hard. He flew backwards and landed on his back. Slowly he sat up rubbing his head. "What the hell is wrong with you?" He said as he got up, turned and ran off. I laughed and carried on towards the beach. As I stood high up on a sand dune I scanned the beach for Hayley. At first I couldn't see her but then she pop her head up out of the water and waved. I raced down the dunes and across the sand towards the water. I was boiling and I just ran into the waves. "Hey what's up you look angry?"

"Some idiot tried to start a fight with me because I walked into him".

"Let me guess, you beat him up right?"

"Yup, then he got up and ran away like a baby".

"Haha come on the water will calm you down".

"Okay". I dove under the water with here. We swam along the sea floor and through the coral. I had to go up for air every six minutes but Hayley could stay under the water for at least twelve. A pod of dolphins came up to us. They where blowing bubble rings and swimming through them. She was right the cool water had calmed me down a bit. We swam up to the surface. She slashed me with water and I splashed her back. I watched her as she ran through the waves, I knew she only thought of us as really close friends but I wished we could be something more. I chased after her down the beach, as I was just about to reach her she turned and dived back under the water. Like a puppy I followed her under. I couldn't see her anywhere under the water then I felt something grab hold of my legs and I was pulled under. I saw her, big smile across her face and a twinkle in her eyes. I rolled my own eyes and shook my head. She laughed forgetting about closing her mouth. We floated for a little while on the water. "Hey want to go check out the shop up there?" She asked. "Sure lets go check it out". We swam back to shore and dried of she slipped on her shorts and packed all the stuff in back in her bag. She carried her shawl in one hand and her shoes in the other. We waked along the beach and up the dunes.

The sing above the door read Ashley's. There where tables and chairs out side under parasols. The door way had a fly net hanging in it. We pushed through the door and a girl with long wavy blond hair and tanned skin stood on a small stage singing. With a band behind her to back her up. She spotted us stood looking around at the shop. She cut the band of and came up to us. "Hi I'm Ashley, you must be new here can I interest you in a cool drink".

"Sure, and hi I'm Dimitri and this is Hayley we just moved here yea".

"Cool where you from?"

"Alaska".

"Really wow and you moved all the way over here".

"Ye, well". Hayley interrupted. "Just ignore him he's grumpy, ye we kinda had no choice my parents made us".

"Well I'm sure you will like it here, what flavour smoothie do you want?"

"You do banana and Dimitri will have_".

"Tropical".

"Coming right up". I grabbed hold of Hayley's arm and dragged her to a booth. "What are you doing shes human you know we can't make friends".

"Yes we can, if we want to fit in I don't want to be a wired loner at school and I'm sure she probably goes to the one where going to and I have never been to a real school before, it's fine if you want to be the wired loner dude". I just rolled my eyes. "One banana ice smoothie and one tropical iced smoothie on the house".

"Thanks, are you sure?"

"Ye your new".

"Ashley what school do you go to?"

"Mythic Groove high school".

"Same where staring there tomorrow me and all my brothers and sisters".

"Cool how may brothers and sisters do you have like?" 

"Oh a lot". I block out their conversation. The fly net snap open and in came mr tough guy with his mates. "Oh grate". I muttered under my breath forgetting that we had super hearing. The girls turned to me. "What?" They both said at the same time. Me and Hayley looked up at each other. "You heard me say that". I asked Ashley. "Erm yea' I have ears". I shook the matter off. "Well what's the matter?" Hayley pursued me. "That lad giving dirty looks at the counter is the one I pushed on to his arse".

"What you took on Diego Michaelson and beat him?"

"Ye it was no big deal I accidentally walked into him and he tried to start a fight".

"Ye but every one knows you don't pick a fight with him he's the hardest lad in school".

"I'm going to school, with that loser". He spotted us looking at him. I heard Ashley whisper to Hayley that he's quite good looking. They both giggled. He walked over by him self his friends where laughing and whispering to one and other. "You got a problem? What are you looking at me for?"

"Get lost dude or I will kick your arse again".

"Oh ye, away then me and you out side".

"You really don't want to do that".

"Don't I, you wanna know what I think, your chicken". He raised his voice for his friends to here. I scrunched my fists into balls and stood up. Hayley grabbed my arm. "Right I think it's time for us to go Dimitri". She dragged me past him and to the door. "See you at school Ashley!" She shouted while looking over her shoulder. She dragged me out the door. "What are you doing, I was going to nock his silly little_".

"No calm down you might have killed the guy, then what? And anyway I was ready to leave". I let her drag me back down the beach and along the path towards home.
