The door closed, when I began to examine the envelope. It was your average envelope, with an important stamp. I looked up at Skye.

"Dan, whats that?" She asked, pointing towards the envelope in my hand. I shrugged.

"I guess we have to open it." I flipped the paper over and opened it.

To Mr.Daniel Middleton,

It has come to my attention that you have sheltered a child from foster care recently. It has also come to my attention that yoy are having a sexual relationship with this child. Due to the Law, Skye Fandlem, will be taken into custody by her biological Mother, Jessica Fandlem, January 14. And you will be sentenced to a meeting with the authorities, In two months.

Wait, January 14? But thats tomorrow?! The paper trembled in my hand. I stared blankly at the ground, They were taking Skye away...

"Dan?" I heard her small voice ask. I looked at her, my eyes watering with every second. I coulsnt say anythinf so I extended my hand, and handed her the letter.

She read it over for what seemes to be forever. She looked up at me, tears streaming down her face.

"How could they..." she said, dropping the letter. I took a step closer to her and wrapped my arms around her, for the last time. I kissed the top of her forehead.

It's amazing the harm an envelope with a few words can do to a person. Especially to someone who is madly in love.
