Grinning at the text message Peter received, he unabashedly did a little dance right there in the middle of his kitchen, swirling on his tiptoes. He and Wendy had been texting each other for a few days now. He realised that asking her for her phone number was the best thing he's ever done.

He reread the words:

"What nights are you working?"

That meant she was interested. She was asking questions about him and he felt his heart swell palpably in his chest when he read the texts once more. Her replies meant a lot to him and were enough to make his heart flutter. He texted her back and almost instantly there was a reply.

"Everyday apart from Monday and Sunday :~)

So, you work on the normal movie nights?

Yep! Are you thinking about coming on one of those days?

Maybe. Do you have any good film recommendations?"

And on and on they went, chatting about films, chatting about life, chatting about everything else. They never went deeper than they were comfortable with and it always made Peter smile at how understanding she had been. He had only hoped that he wasn't the only one that enjoyed their conversations.

Wendy was a lot more open through text message, like as if a different side of her was beginning to unravel. Perhaps it was because she didn't have to worry about the physical aspect — not that he expected anything physical from her. In person it was more personal, more sensitive. As he came into this conclusion, he could understand why she was feeling like that. Nothing was akin to like talking to her in person but he also loved talking to her over text, getting to know her with no distractions, no excuses.

Wendy was something, something to be raved about. She had the purest intentions and the funniest sayings, despite her said shyness. One of her favourite sayings was 'fish sticks' and every time she typed it, Peter laughed. He loved it; he loved her attitude towards life, as if she believed that there were no bad moments. Everything was good for her, a little piece of a jigsaw that made up life, it all added to a bigger purpose, a bigger sense of things. Wendy saw that as a good thing.

One of their conversations went like this:

"You do so much for your family, it's nice.

Well, they're my family. I would do anything for someone I love.

But they're not even you're real family, they're your step-family.

Doesn't make a difference, they're still family.

See? Lovely."

Peter never deleted a text message from Wendy. Although he was pretty sure that it was taking up most of his storage on his phone, he never bothered deleting them. Like the movie stubs he wanted to keep them. He wanted to remember her and know all he could about her. She fascinated him, in every sense and in every way.

He often wondered if she felt the same, if she was as infatuated as he was.
