Chapter 7
Joel's POV:
We lived like this for a long time. Moving around every week or so for about 3 months. All the kids are talking a bit now, and crawling, starting to take their first steps. It's exciting, but also sad when your daughter's 5th word is "zombie". We had ran away from a lot of them, and I'm sure that even after this they will remember the terror, the tears, and the fear.
Lizzie's cut was getting better, slowly. It was clear that the medication that I was giving her wasn't going to help her for long. The cut was also infected, but I wasn't about to tell her that. We needed help. Kyle and Yammy were doing better, and Yammy was less sad because Kyle was here. Although Kyle was sick too, he wasn't as sick as Lizzie. We needed help, fast.
We were sitting in the grass, having a little picnic on the wild turkey we had shot earlier, when Hope screamed, "ZOMBIE!!" We grabbed what little stuff we could and ran out of the clearing. We thought we had escaped, when I realized that Hope and Lizzie weren't there with us.
"LIZZIE!!" I screamed, "HOPE!!"
"Joel, she got bit!" She said, "Come back, they went away, for now."
We went back to asses Hope's bite. She was already gushing blood, although the bite wasn't all that bad. The bite was in her tiny arm, I tied a tourniquet and hoped that the bleeding stops. We needed even more help now that little Hope has been bitten. She could possibly be infected, although, there is no way to know. Our poor child, a zombie? I hope not.
Lizzie's POV:
Just as Hope got bitten, we heard the sirens. Blaring and loud, there were helicopters above us. We tried to flag them down. They landed and we all loaded up into the helicopter and there were some doctors in there for emergencies. They immediately took Hope and put her under anesthesia to un-infect her.
"NOOOOOOO!" I screamed, they were ripping my baby out of my hands! Joel grabbed my waist.
"Lizzie," He breathed in my ear, "You are fine, its your doctor, she is one of the ones that isn't against us." He searched my eyes for some sort of reaction. I sat down in the chair. He sat down next to me and put his hand on my shoulder. We watched in horror as they performed on Hope, little Hope.
My doctor, the one that told me about the triplets came over. Joel held my hand gently.
"Miss.Elizabeth," She started and looked at my hand, "Sorry, Mrs.Elizabeth, Hope will make it through the surgery, though she will need additional medical treatment."
"How are we supposed to get that! It's the zombie apocalypse!" I screeched.
"Lizzie..." Joel whispered.
"What!?" I snapped.
"It's ok, lets get you checked out, make sure that neck isn't bad." Joel said sweetly.
"No! Don't worry about me! Its my child that is being operated on now!" I bursted into tears, I felt a sharp pain in my left temple and blacked out.
