Chapter 50: Who is she?

In a beautifully decorated room of a grand mansion, tucked away in one quiet corner, sat a girl at a study table. In front of her lay an open diary, its pages whispering stories of old memories perhaps hers, perhaps someone else's…

She held a photograph in her hand, staring at it for what felt like forever. Her eyes were filled with emotions, longing, sorrow, and something deeper that words couldn’t quite capture…

Her fingers gently traced the edges of the photo, as if she were trying to feel the presence of the person in it, imagining them sitting right there with her. A tiny tear shimmered at the corner of her eye, silently revealing just how much she missed them…

Girl: You know, I’ve been missing you so much today. Where did you go, just like that, without a word, without even saying goodbye? Don’t you ever miss me? Or have you forgotten me forever? Maybe you never really saw me as a friend. That’s why you left without saying a word. I don’t even know if you remember that someone’s still waiting for you. How would you know? You must be busy living your life…

As she spoke, tears finally began to fall from her eyes. She missed that person deeply, so much that she had started talking to the photograph in her hand, as if pouring out all the pain hidden in her heart. It felt like she was sharing everything she couldn’t say before, hoping the photo could somehow listen…

Her heart ached so much that all she wanted now was for him to appear right in front of her. She wished she could hug him tightly, cry her heart out, and ask him why he wasn’t there, especially now, when she needed him the most…

Girl: I wish you were here, Dany…

Singhania Mansion:

Everyone was seated in the living room when a servant came running in and informed Arnav that Mr. Khanna was outside and wished to meet him. Even though Mr. Khanna had ties with the Singhania family, this was Rajveer’s house and he couldn’t step inside without permission. He knew exactly how dangerous Rajveer could be…

Arnav nodded and told the servant to bring them in. Mr. Khanna wasn’t alone, his wife was with him too. One look at them, and it was clear they hadn’t come just for a casual visit. There was purpose in their presence… and a hint of worry on their faces…

Arnav: Please come in, Mr. and Mrs. Khanna. What brings you here so suddenly?

Mr. Khanna: We need to talk to you about something important…

Arnav: Yes, please go ahead. I hope it’s nothing to worry about…

Mr. Khanna: No, it’s not exactly something to worry about… but it’s been a long time since the kids met. We think it’s time to start thinking about their marriage. What do you feel about it?

Everyone froze for a moment after hearing those words. But the most shocked of all was Ruhi, who had just returned home from work. She stopped right at the doorway, unable to move, as her eyes fell on the Khanna couple…

And when she heard what they had come to say, it felt as if all the strength had drained from her body. It was as if something inside her had suddenly gone silent…

Within a few seconds, everyone slowly came back to their senses. Just then, Komal noticed Ruhi standing near the door and gently called out to her. That brought Ruhi back to herself. She gave the couple a faint smile, greeted them with a polite “Namaste,” and quietly took her seat…

Mrs. Khanna: Now that Ruhi’s here too, tell us, dear, what do you think? Should we go ahead and fix the wedding dates? We’re not in a rush, really… but Rajat has to leave the country next month for business, and we’re not sure when he’ll be back. That’s why we were hoping Ruhi could go with him. It would give them both some good time together. That’s the only little concern, we just want to make sure everything falls into place before he leaves…

Mr. Khanna: Yes, and the branch over there really needs him, so he has to go. He was supposed to leave this month, actually, but he said, what if he doesn’t get time to come back? What about Ruhi then? That’s why he postponed the trip. So now, we’d like to hear from you, what do you think we should do about this?

Ruhi: I’d like to speak to my brother about this first. Would it be alright if I give my answer tomorrow?

Arnav: Ruhi is right. We’d like to discuss this with the whole family first, and then we’ll let you know…

Mr. Khanna: Alright, we have no objections. So, we’ll take our leave now…

The Singhania family didn’t stop them as they left. They were still caught in the thought, why had the Khanna couple come so suddenly, and that too with a proposal for marriage? It all felt too fast. But they chose to set those thoughts aside for now. They decided they would speak to Rajveer about it later that night, and whatever came of that conversation, they would inform the Khanna family accordingly…

Late at night, when everyone was in their rooms, Ruhi walked up to Rajveer’s door and gently knocked. Ishqi opened it, and Ruhi quietly asked about Rajveer. He was in the study at that moment, so Ishqi invited Ruhi in and asked her to sit…

Then she walked over to the study room, knocked on the door, and called Rajveer out. When Rajveer stepped outside and saw Ruhi sitting there, looking a little tense, he came over and sat beside her. Ishqi also took a seat nearby, sensing something important was about to be discussed…

Ruhi: Bhai… Rajat’s parents came today. They came to talk about the marriage… (fidgeting with her dupatta)

Rajveer: What did they say?

Ruhi: They want the wedding to happen next month, because Rajat has to go abroad for business. And since no one knows when he’ll be back, they’re hoping to settle things before he leaves…

Rajveer: What do you want?

Ruhi: Bhai…

The next morning, everyone gathered at the breakfast table. Rajveer had already left for the office, just like he always did. The rest of the family was seated, except Ruhi. They were all waiting for her.

Just then, they heard the sound of footsteps. As they looked up, they saw Ruhi coming down the stairs. She walked in quietly and took her seat without saying a word. But all eyes were on her, as if silently asking, had she spoken to Rajveer? And what had she decided?

Ruhi: I’m ready for the wedding. You can go ahead and fix the dates…

Saying that, she quietly finished her breakfast and left, without showing any emotion. Misha, Mihir, and Ishqi noticed it. They glanced at each other, silently acknowledging the shift in her mood. Without saying much, they too wrapped up their breakfast and headed off to their respective routines…

They decided they would talk to Ruhi later that night, to understand what had suddenly changed in her. It was something only they had noticed, something that had quietly slipped past the eyes of the elders…
