Cake's POV

I woke up this morning feeling terrible. I had slept on the couch, not wanting to disturb Fionna. I knew that she wouldn't try and sneak off, it was raining afterall.

I got up from the rough sofa and made my way to the kitchen to make breakfast. The whole tree house was chilled. I guess I should've shut the family room window before I fell asleep.

Today wasn't as gloomy as the past few had been. The sun shined above the earth with big, but few, rain clouds inhabiting the sky around it.

I lazily made breakfast, not even focusing on the task. My mind just buzzed like radio static as I cracked eggs into the frying pan.
It felt like I was on autopilot the entire time. I snapped back into reality when I noticed that I was already setting the table and filling the plates with food that didn't even consciously remember making. The aroma carried around the house.

I heard the pitter-patter of feet climbing down the bedroom ladder.

"Hey, Fionna. Good morning. I made breakfast. It's your favorite, too." I said, attempting to let her know that I'm sorry about last night.

She walked past the kitchen and headed for the front entrance.
"I'm not hungry." she said weakly.

I followed her down the stairs. I stretched my arms to close the front door that she had already slightly opened.

"Where are you going?" I asked, sadly but concerned.
I walked over to where she was standing. She flinched slightly but quickly straightened herself back up.

"I'm just going for a walk." she said, softly.
It was then that I noticed the bandage wrap on her leg and the marks on her face.

'I'm a horrible person.'

"At least let me pack you some food, there are leftover sandwiches you could take with yo--"

"It's okay, I'll eat when I get back." she said, still soft spoken.
"Will you be okay by yourself?" I quietly asked her.

"I'll be fine." she said, walking out the front door.
I heard her mutter, "It's not like Marshall can come out in the sun today anyway." before she left.

Fionna's POV

I strode through the grasslands and into the forest. I needed to clear my head.

There was a pond in a giant clearing nearby. I approached it and sat on the log of a fallen tree, looking into the clear water.

My reflection starred back at me with sadness in her eyes and shashes on her cheek.

'That girl can't be me.' I thought. Though I did have to admit, I did look pretty rough and tough with the three markings on my face.
A big cloud floated in front of the sun, making my reflection clearer.

A dark figure found its way into my peripheral vision. My eyes never left the water.

"I'm not allowed to see you."

"Then just close your eyes." the voice, that I had gotten so used to hearing, said.

'Why are you making this so difficult. I'm trying so hard to get used to not being able to be around you, but its just...so difficult.'
But, I obliged and closed my eyes anyway.
