Cake's POV
"Hey, Fionna?" I said, walking into the kitchen where she was joyfully snacking on a sandwich.
"What's up?" she asked with a slight smile that seemed to linger.
That's odd, she wasn't showing the slightest of emotion when she had left. Not that I'm complaining. It brought me hope to see her already shaken out of that monotone mood she had been plagued with only a couple short hours ago and most likely all of last night too.But, something else different did catch my eye.
"I...I just um, didn't see your hat on you before you left." I said, noticing the seemingly freshly clean white of her bunny shapen hat.
She said nothing, just chewed the food in her mouth for much longer than needed before swallowing it.
"I had it in my pack and put it on while I was out." she said before wolfing down the rest of her sandwich.
"Oh. Well, anyway, Prince Gumball called and asked if we could help with the decorations for the upcoming ball. I said 'yes', is that alright?" I questioned.
She stopped her chewing but continued just as fast as she had stopped.
"Uh...yeah, sure. When?"
"When you put your rainy-day clothes on." I said, slipping my feet into dark brown rain boots.
"Alright, just give me a minute."she said, rising from the table and going to our room to redress.
The shuffling of drawers being opened and closed and the soft fall of clothing being discarded onto the floor in exchange for warmer ones went in and out of my sensitive ears.
Minutes passed before she reappeared wearing a blue sweater that had matched her shirt, jeans, and dark boots. Her hat had not left her head.
"Okay, I'm ready if you are." she said, retrieving her backpack from the table where she had been sitting.
~~~
She sat silently on my back as we strolled to the sugary castle now coming into view.
She hopped of when we made it to the front gates, saying that she she could walk on her own from here.
Banana guards welcomed us in by opening the kingdom's protective gates.
As we strode through the kingdom, we received many hellos and good mornings from the sweet citizens. We returned the kindness while making our way towards the castle.
Knocking on the front doors, we waited patiently. Usually we were greeted by Peppermint maid, but instead in was the prince himself that answered the castle doors.
"Cake, Fionna! I'm glad you two could make it!" he said cheerfully, welcoming us in and leading us through the halls of the castle.
"I'm really grateful that you two are here to help with all of this." he said sweetly as we came upon the ball room.
"Well, friends do help eachother, after all." I replied as we stepped in admiring the grandness of it. In the middle there was a huge table with quite the variety of decor.
"Ooo, pretty!" I guaked at the colorful frills and and patterns of them.
"Indeed, they are. They're very special because all of them are from different kingdoms all over Aaa. This is going to be a very big party, after all." he said happily.
"Now," he added. "if you ladies will excuse me, I must go and send out more invitations. Decorate however you wish."
And with that, Gumball walked off, leaving us both alone with the magnificent decorations and our imagination.
