The job that brought them closer (nalu)

Natsu's dad

Natsu is walking up a steep, rocky path to the top of a mountain to meet his adoptive father, he always likes to talk entrance, as Natsu looked harder inside the massive cave he saw glowing eyes, dragon eyes. Before he could speak, his father's loud voice rang through him.

"It's about time you found your mate! I was starting to get worried that you would be alone." The red scaled dragon looked down on his son and smiled, knowing what had happened that night. "When are you going to claim her? Since you've already tried to, so what in the hell happened?!" Igneel spoke with an agitated tone.

"It just didn't feel right for me, I felt like I was taking advantage of her, plus I don't know if she would actually want to be my mate, she's nakama." The boy said with a depressed expression on his face, knowing that Igneel was looking right at him but never met his gaze.

"Do you remember what I taught you about mates? Or did that lesson fly over your head like everything else?" The scarlet dragon asked in an irritated tone, although he loves his son, he had the attention span of a fish, unless it was something about fighting.

"I remember that when I  claim her, she can use the same magic as me and same to my mate, you won't tire out as fast, on rare occasions you are able to read each others thoughts and share feelings, that's all I really remember." Natsu said to his scaly dad. "Even so, how am I going to explain to her without her freaking out?" He questioned, looking at Igneel for an answer.

Igneel looked at his inquiring son, who was also confused and said "You two have known each other for the past two years, she knows all about you and still she trusts you with her life. Don't sell her short. You do know how to mark her, right?" The dragon asked his son, at this Natsu smiled mischievously and answered "Sure I do! You hammered that into me with all those lessons."

The dragon thought to himself 'I'm glad that I don't have to go over that again!' Sighing he said "That's good, because I wasn't gonna tell you again!"

Igneel stared at his son and chuckled, and told Natsu that he would be in his mindscape until he marked Lucy as his. Natsu thanked him and said goodbye for now and started the trek down the steep mountain that he had to walk up he was feeling a little content knowing that Igneel would be there for him.

Natsu woke up the next morning in Lucy's soft bed smiling like an idiot at what his father told him that night. He looked over to see her still sleeping 'she looks so cute when she's sleeping, better not wake her.' He thought as he gently eased his arm from around her waist. Natsu wrote her a note saying he had to get his stuff from his house, and quietly left out of the window, after giving her a quick kiss on her head.
