Do you know what it is like to have your entire life changed in one simple day? One person walking down the street that you haven’t ever met in your entire life can change everything. Hadley did that for me. I don’t know how, but it happened and I finally got a break.

The friend that I was staying with, Alex, was getting tired of me. He kicked me out just today and I had planned to spend the night on the streets, having nowhere else to go. But now, Ed and Hadley had been kind enough to allow me to sleep on their couch, after everything that they have done for me.

After we went out to dinner and sat up and talked for a little while Ed and Hadley were tired. Hadley pilled me up with blankets before skipping upstairs with Ed. The night had gotten late and they were all what I thought asleep, but I wasn’t sure, they could be doing anything.

I laid on their soft couch smiling at the situation I was in, it felt like a dream. I laid on my back staring at the white ceiling. I heard someone coming  down the stairs and I closed my eyes, I didn’t want whoever was coming downstairs to know that I was awake. Then I heard talking, but it was only one person, and they went into the kitchen and clicked the light on.

I rolled on my stomach and squinted into the kitchen to see who it was. There Hadley stood, her phone on her ear and she stood in the kitchen, she looked angry.

“Did you take the pills?” I heard her say and I tried to roll on my back, I didn’t want to hear anything and I didn’t want to listen in on her conversation but it was sort of hard not to. “Kyle! I will call John if you don’t stop, he will make you got to consoling.” She explained into the phone and even though I tried not to pay attention I couldn’t squish the words out. “If I tell Ed he will get so pissed off.” She slurred into the phone. “I don’t care there are other things that you can do, the pills will help, you cannot butcher yourself anymore!” She screamed into the phone before hanging it up and throwing it on the counter.

Hadley started to cry. I didn’t know what to do, and I knew that I couldn’t just lay here but it wouldn’t be that  will get so pissed off.” She slurred into the phone. “I don’t care there are other things that you can do, the pills will help, you cannot butcher yourself anymore!” She screamed into the phone before hanging it up and throwing it on the counter.

Hadley started to cry. I didn’t know what to do, and I knew that I couldn’t just lay here, I couldn’t stand seeing a girl cry.  I rolled off the couch and slugged over to the kitchen.

She looked up to me from her hands that she was crying in and she wiped her tears away.

“Hey, do you need anything?” She asked pretending like she wasn’t crying, and trying to hide it the best she could.

“Are you okay?” I asked walking closer to her and I pushed her hair out of her face, my fingertips slightly brushing her skin.

“Yeah I am fine.” She blinked quickly. “Just stuff with my-“ she stopped her sentence half way though, her brain searching for the right word. “Brother.” She said as I the word was foreign to her own mouth.

Ed and I growing up were only friends. Our relationship was only a friendship, nothing else growing up. But now looking back to it I could see the underlying tone of romance in our relationship.

Ed and I would always go to CD shops in London and we would look at the CD’s for hours, searching each row for our favorite artists. One time I remember exactly what happened as if it was only yesterday.

Ed was about 16, if I remember right, and was only starting to make a bigger name for himself, which would make me 15. Everyone at the CD shop knew us cause we came around so much, and Ed gave them a couple copies of his earlier CD’s to see what they thought of them.
