Alex's POV

I woke up with blurry eyes and a sore throat. I was in Kyle's bed, laying on top of the comforter with a separate blanket covering me. I sat up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. Looking to the side table, I noticed a note with messy handwriting. I picked it up and read the note once my eyes focused.

"Alex,

My mom is here and she wants to meet you. I've set out an outfit in the bathroom for you to wear around her for today. Also, cover up the bruises on your neck. We'll talk about that later.

~Kyle"

Sighing, I stood up and walked to the bathroom that had a pretty decent outfit on the counter. There was a pair of black leggings and a long-sleeved, off the shoulder shirt with a lipstick mark on it. Not bad, I thought to myself. I then looked at myself in the mirror and gasped. There were already bruises forming around my neck that formed the shape of a hand. I looked to my face and saw the makeup smeared with tear tracks and starting to rub off.

Sighing, I grabbed my makeup bag, my makeup remover, and some cotton disks. I cleaned the old makeup off of my face and pulled out my concealer. I blended it into the areas where the bruising was and a little under my eyes. Then, I brush on a light layer of my powder foundation and get to work on my eyes. If I'm going to meet his mother, the least I can do is look decent and pretty. After finishing my make up, I change into the outfit that Kyle left and let down my hair.

I throw on a grey beanie to hide how dirty my hair is, and a grey infinity scarf to cover the back of my neck. I can't see the back of it so I don't know if there's bruising back there or not. I do a glance-over of myself in the mirror before grabbing my iPod and headphones and going downstairs.

As I walk down the hallway that leads to the kitchen, I can hear two voices. One is definitely Kyle, and the other is most likely his mother. I enter the kitchen with a straight face and glance to the two as it goes silent. I look up to see a woman with brown hair that's just starting to grey and kind hazel eyes. She has a big smile on her lips as she looks to Kyle.

"Is this her?" She excitedly asked. He simply nodded with a grin as he made his way to me. He placed his arm around my lower back and tugged me to his side.

"This is her, Ma," He looked down at me, "Alex, this is my mother." I shook his arm off and walked to the woman and offered a gentle smile.

"Nice to meet you..."

"Oh, you can call me Steph!" She pulled me into a bone crushing hug, "It's so good to meet you, Alex! I thought Kyle here would've never found a girl to marry!" She pulled back to examine my face, "And, my god, you are gorgeous! I'm gonna have a beautiful daughter-in-law!" She placed a kiss on each of my cheeks before pulling away.

"Yes, you are, Ma. And I'm going to have a beautiful wife," Kyle grinned down at me as he placed his hand on my shoulder, causing me to jump slightly.

"Don't touch me..." I muttered as he tried to pull me to his side, "I said don't touch me," I said louder as he wouldn't give up. He removed his hand and took a step back as his mother looked confused.

"Is everything alright, dear?" She sweetly asked as she approached me while glaring at her son.

"Ma, everything is fine. We're just in the middle of a little fight right now. Nothing to worry about," Kyle smoothly lied. Oh, if I could tell her what you did, you'd be destroyed. I thought to myself as I let Steph take my hands into hers.

"Come sit with me, darling, and tell me about yourself." She led me to the bar stools and sat down. I took a seat next to her as she wouldn't let my hands go.
