Chapter 19

Kyle POV

I had gotten off the phone with one of my few business partners and sat in my office chair. I let out a large sigh as I loosened my tie and rubbed my hands over my face. Crossing one of my feet over my knee, I leaned back and closed my eyes. All I was seeing was darkness until a certain someones eyes flashed across my mind. 

Alex. Her sparkling blue eyes and her smiling lips. I brought my fingers to my lips; I could still feel her perfectly soft ones melted to mine. I didn't even know why I had kissed her in the first place, but as soon as I did, it was like fireworks went off under my skin and my mind became a blur. One minute I was kissing her; the next she was pushing me away with a painful look on her face. That look on her face had sent knives through my chest. Normally, I wouldn't have felt bad about causing anyone pain. But as soon as I saw her wince as her eyes squeezed shut and her eye brows creased, my heart constricted and it was like I was feeling a small bit of her own pain. 

My eyes were still closed when I heard the door handle wobbling, causing my eyes to snap open. Looking at the door way, I saw a small, feminine silhouette causing a smile to ghost my lips. She was dressed in a sleeping shirt that went down to her mid-thigh and I knew she was wearing shorts underneath, just like she does every night. She slowly limped her way to my desk and sat down in the chair in front of it. Her brown hair fell down her back in damp waves and her face was flushed from what I was assuming the hot water of her bath. I still couldn't believe she hides her face with that makeup of hers; it didn't need to be hidden. 

"How was your bath?" I whispered just loud enough for her to hear. She looked down at her hands before muttering that it was good before looking back up at me through her long lashes. 

"Why do I get the feeling you want to ask me something?" I asked as I stood up and walked around to her side and leaned against my desk with my hands against the desk. She blushed before she replied.

"I was in the mood to watch a movie, and I was wondering, if. . .maybe you would like to join me?" She was fidgeting with her fingers as she avoided eye contact with me. I chuckled lightly as I reached forward and placed a hand on her cheek; it was only then that she looked at me. I could see the nervousness plain as day in the blue of her eyes. I slightly smirked at her hopeful look. 

"I would love to. I'll go throw on some sweats and meet you in the living room. Or did you wanna watch it in bed?"

"I was hoping the bedroom because I'll probably fall asleep."

About ten minutes later, I had my sweats on and Alex was laying next to me, we weren't really touching, unfortunately. She had picked a some scary movie from Netflix called Hush. I honestly wasn't really paying attention, I was just mainly watching her; but when the movie started getting intense for her, she came closer to me. It was only when I had put my arm around her flinching frame did she actually curl into my chest for 'protection'. I absentmindedly ran my fingers through her hair, from root to tip. She eventually fell asleep in my arms before the movie ended and I was left to watch the credits and turn it off. 

I was almost asleep when I heard a whimpering and Alex shuffled to get comfy. I thought that's all she wanted so I loosened my arms a bit to give her room, but when she started hiccuping, I leaned on my elbow over her. Moving her hair out of her face, I saw her eyebrows pulled together and her hands were clenching the sheets. I reached over and turned on the bedside lamp and sat up. I ran my fingers lightly over her back and noticed the growing heat radiating from her. I pulled the comforter back to only cover her feet. 

As soon as she stopped shaking, I placed a firm hand over her shoulder and squeezed and slightly shook her. She whined and groaned but her eyes eventually cracked open with unshed tears still visible in them. She pushed herself up on her elbows as I lightly ran my fingers over her back again.
