Kyle POV

Alex had just gotten out of a three hour surgery. Apparently, the bullet had ripped through her gracilis muscle, her adductor longus muscle, her sartorius muscle, her rector femoris muscle, and her tenso fasciae latae muscle in her left leg. It had stopped in her tensor fasciae latae muscle so they had to get it out before doing their best to stitch her muscles back together. The one that went through her abdomen above her hip had shot out the other side so that spot didn't take nearly as long, but when she fell, her right knee hit the ground so hard that it displaced her knee cap. They had asked if I wanted them to fix it now or wait, but I knew she would hate to have to come back so I told them now. Even though it was expensive, I was going to pay as much as I needed to to get her to be okay. However, she was going to need an intense amount of recovery time.

I was sitting in her hospital room while she was still under sedation and I was going through how I was supposed to tell her brothers their father died or how I was going to tell her about the damage she took. I had called them when we got here, but they had to finish up a huge stack of paperwork before they could get here. Her uncle had gone to get some food from the vending machine and John was standing outside the door with two more men that way no one could come disturb her without my permission. I also didn't want Ethan to come back to try to take her again. The cops are currently trying to pin him down for arrest, but I know it's a lost cause.

With her hurt like this, I suddenly felt entitled to protect her from anything and everything. I looked to the little table by her bed that had the room phone, her purse, her dress, and her jewelry on it. I grabbed her engagement ring and played with it in the palm of my hand. I looked to her hands and thought they looked too empty. She was always wearing rings and it didn't look right to see her fingers bare of the jewelry.

I walked over to the other side of her bed and grabbed her left hand, sliding the ring onto her wedding finger. I looked to her face to see she had no makeup on. My best guess was that one of the nurses had cleaned all the makeup and blood off of her face. She almost never went around anywhere without makeup, not even the house. Needless to say, she was prettier without her makeup. Sure, the eyeliner and eye shadow made her eyes seem brighter, but I preferred to see her natural face. Her messy brown hair was spread over the pillow and I could see where it was matted with blood.

I slightly jumped as the door was opened and Vincent walked in. "You know what I always wondered? Why do hospitals always have good food?" He asked with his mouth full of jello and five jello cups in his arms and three spoons in his hand, "Want one?"

"Why not? I haven't eaten since the party." I took one of the spoons and a jello and ripped the lid off.

We both sat down in the uncomfortable chairs and ate our jello in silence. He eventually grabbed the remote to the tv and turned on the news. There wasn't much going on considering it was almost one in the morning, but they did announce that they were looking for Ethan.

"Turn up the volume." I ordered.

"Tonight, a failed kidnapping turned into homicide. Ethan Calderon is on the run after he shot Alex Wolfe, putting her in the hospital, and killed her father, David Wolfe," They showed a picture of Alex with her father on the screen, "Now, the story we received from the girls uncle is that Mr. Calderon had tried to kidnap Ms. Wolfe when her father tried to stop them. That was when Mr. Calderon shot and killed the father and Ms. Wolfe tried to run to him, resulting in her getting shot twice. She was shot in the..." I decided to tune out the reporter as I looked back to Alex sleeping. For once, she looked peaceful. Not partying, not stressed, and not focused on dancing. If it weren't for the steady beep of the heart monitor, you would've thought she was dead because her breathing was so shallow.
