Chapter 14

Sam and Chance strolled around the showground hand in hand. Neither of them noticed how people stared at them as they went past, they were both so caught up in the world they had made for each other. The screams and shouts from the rides attracted Chance and he eagerly dragged Sam over to them.

"C'mon let's go on a ride." He said excitedly.

"Not in this dress, I don't need to be flashing to anyone when I get flipped upside down." Sam told him pulling him to a stop.

"Oh yeah okay we won't go then." He sighed in disappointment.

"I could change you know."

"Yeah!" He said his excitement restored "Let's go get your jeans then."

"You really want to go on them don't you? Surely you've been on better rides than these?" Sam asked curiously then watched in amazement as he shook his head and smiled endearingly at her

"I really want to go on the rides with you." Chance murmured close to her ear and she shivered "There's a difference you know, it wouldn't be the same without you."

"Well let's go then." With a grin they went back to the car.

Sam looked at herself in the mirror of the women's toilets and sighed. Gone was the magically beautiful girl that had been encased within the dress. Now she stood in her worn jeans, t-shirt and boots with her hair back in its braid. Oh well back to being me again, she thought. Sam carefully folded her dress, picked up her sandals and walked out.

Chance casually leaned against the wall and waited for Sam. It was strange but she had seemed reluctant to change when for most is of the day she had been cursing the dress she had been wearing. Sam walked out of the toilets looking bewildered, not sure what Chance would think of her now. He smiled warmly at her but she was surprised to find she didn't feel as good as she had before.

"Hello Gorgeous." Chance whispered in her ear as he held her gently in his arms. He watched as a sad look entered her eyes.

"Don't joke with me I know I'm not beautiful. I'm just back to being me." She said quietly and he silently cursed her low self esteem.

"That's not true you are always beautiful in my eyes." He told her softly, but Sam just snorted at his suggestion and pulled from his arms to walk away.

"Let's just put my dress in the car and go on the rides." They walked together back to the car park and Sam tossed her stuff in and prepared to walk away.

"Not yet." He grabbed her arm and turned her back to face him "You're the same person who was wearing that dress, nothing has changed. You look just as feminine as before. You are more beautiful than any girl here. Why do you think so many guys wanted to buy your lunch and spend the day with you?" He looked determinedly into her eyes and she felt her mind go all mushy.

"Um..." She shook her head at him.

"Don't shake your head at me I'm telling you the truth. I would never lie to you." He said to her with affection as he cradled her in his arms.

"Okay." Sam croaked out as his words rang with such sincerity.

"You believe me then?" He asked and she just looked at him..

He swore that her eyes would be the death of him. They shone up at him with such hope and trust that he just couldn't help but kiss her. She responded instantly, her fingers plunging into his hair as her arms enfolded around his neck. He pulled away slowly resting his forehead on hers and looking in her eyes. He had a feeling that she had become the most important part of his existence and that scared him.
