I pulled up in front of my mama house and sat there for a second, taking a breath. Soon as I opened the door, I heard voices inside loud, familiar ones. I smiled to myself.

I stepped in.
"Ma, I'm here."

Tasha peeked out the kitchen with a dish towel in her hand.
"There go my baby. You finally made it."

Before I could respond, Jaylah came from down the hallway.
"Boy you said you was comin' at one, it's one-forty."

"Girl, barely," I laughed, pulling her into a hug.

Jarvis was in the living room on the couch, remote in his hand.
He nodded. "What's up, bro."

Then Aunt Stephanie came from the back room like she'd been waiting for her entrance.
"Jai! My handsome nephew! You look tired. Parenthood already stressing you?"

I rubbed my forehead. "Auntie, please..."I said laughing

Tasha tapped her hand against the counter.
"Alright now, come sit. We all been waiting on you."

I sat on the couch, Jaylah plopping right next to me like she was twelve again.

Jarvis looked over. "So? What's the news you been holdin'?"

I straightened up.
"Aight... so the gender reveal is officially set. October 24th. Four p.m."

Jaylah gasped.
"Oooh, I need to get something cute. I want my niece or nephew to know that their aunt was a baddie"

Jarvis smirked. "Boy or girl, you gon' cry either way."

Aunt Stephanie rolled her eyes dramatically.
"You better not be one of them men who pass out at gender reveals. I've seen the videos, Jai."

I shook my head, laughing. "I'm good, I'm good."

Tasha leaned against the wall, smiling soft.
"I'm glad y'all got a date set. This is exciting."

Jaylah nudged me.
"So when we gon' meet her? The mama?"

Aunt Stephanie chimed in instantly.
"Yes! Bring that girl around. I need to see who carryin' my grandniece or nephew."

I exhaled.
"Soon. She just... takin' her time. I respect it."

Tasha nodded like she approved.
"That's fine. Y'all do things at y'all pace."

Then she wiped her hands on the towel again and said what I KNEW was coming.

"And we should invite your daddy."
