The sun was hitting just right when I pulled up to the brunch spot, that cute little place with the pink umbrellas and the floral wall everybody always took pictures in. Through the window I spotted Des, Tai, and Noelle already waving at me, with Ashanti sitting beside them, scrolling through her iPad like she was locked in.

"Look who finally made it," Des teased as I slid into the empty seat.

"I'm pregnant. I move on baby time now," I said with a smile.

Ashanti laughed. "You good, Lay. You right on time. We just about to get into everything anyway."

The server came over and placed a pretty mocktail in front of Noelle and me bubblegum pink lemonade with a tiny edible flower floating on top. My friends raised their mimosas while I stared at mine.

"Okay, this actually cute," I laughed. "I don't feel left out."

Ashanti tapped her screen. "Alright Lay, let's talk gender reveal because baby... your notes? You extra extra."

"And?" I shrugged. "It's my first baby. Everything gotta be big."

She turned the iPad toward us, revealing the mood board, and I swear my jaw dropped. It already looked perfect.

"So the theme," she said, " 'A Baby Is Brewing.' Dramatic, elegant, but still soft. Which is you. We doing life-sized BOY or GIRL letters, covering whichever one isn't used so the real one pops. Then the pot in the middle."

She swiped again and there it was this big black pot carved beautifully.

"So when it's time, smoke comes out the pot pink or blue soft fireworks behind y'all, and smoke effects on both sides for that cinematic moment."

"Oh my god..." I breathed. "I'm gonna cry for real."

"You gone scream," Tai laughed.

"And make Jai hold my hand cause I might fall out," I added.

Ashanti smiled. "It's gonna be beautiful. Extra but tasteful."

We moved on to the food and I made sure it stayed simple but cute.

"Mini finger sandwiches?" she asked.

"Yes."

"Charcuterie boards and fruit cups?"

"Perfect."

"Mini sliders and chicken skewers?"

"I love that."
