As soon as the princess arrived in her sleeping chambers, she lie down to think. She didn't want the kitchen boy to give up, but she wasn't sure she wanted to say yes. What did she want? She wasn't over the loss of her prince. She was scared of the prince coming back to her, because she knew she would go with him and leave the kitchen boy wondering what he had done wrong. That's when it hit her. It didn't matter whether or not she wanted the kitchen boy; she needed him. He had saved her more than just the one night she'd tried to jump from the window. He'd also caught her when she'd fallen from the tree, calmed her horse when he's started getting wild, and covered for her when she'd been caught sneaking away from the kitchens. He was an inevitably crucial part of her life now, and there was nothing she could do to change it. And she didn't particularly want to change it either.
