Narrator POV
Izuku froze for a moment, his grip tightening slightly on the wine bottle. Danger had a new name, and it was Jay and Kay. The air around them was charged, and even though his mind screamed calm, calm, you're the grand prize, his body betrayed him with a tiny shiver.
"Well," Nat said, plopping down onto a cushioned chair with a grin, "don't just stand there like a statue-sit! Drinks, snacks, good vibes. That's the plan tonight."
I set the wine on the table, carefully, like it was a peace treaty. Slowly, I lowered myself onto the edge of a chair, all eyes on me. Jay leaned back, one arm draped over the couch, eyes trained on me like a cat sizing up a particularly intriguing mouse. Kay, on the other hand, had that soft teasing energy, but it wasn't weak-it was sharp, like he could see every layer of me and still smile. Dangerous.
"So," Jay began, his voice smooth as velvet, "Nat's been hyping you up for days. Gotta say... she wasn't exaggerating." He smirked, one eyebrow arched. "You're... impressive."
"Uh... thanks," I said, trying to keep my tone casual. Inside, my brain was doing somersaults. Impressive? That's the nicest word a dangerous person has ever used about me.
Kay laughed softly, low and melodic. "Yeah, Nat didn't lie. You've got... presence."
Presence. My cheeks warmed slightly. Presence didn't usually get noticed. I was usually the background, the quiet one, the invisible force everyone underestimated. And here they were, not just noticing me-they were eagerly inspecting me.
I cleared my throat, forcing some bravado into my voice. "Well... thanks. You all seem pretty... formidable yourselves."
Jay leaned forward just slightly, that smirk deepening. "Formidable, huh? You'll find that out fast."
Kay's grin widened, playful, a challenge in his eyes. "And maybe a little fun, too."
I felt a thrill run through me, and I realized I wasn't scared. Not exactly. My chest tingled with anticipation-the same way it did when I pushed myself past my limits in training, or tore down my old life to build something new. This was... different. Electric. Personal.
Nat clapped her hands, breaking the tension. "Okay! Enough staring! Drinks, snacks, games. Let's get this party started."
I breathed out slowly, letting my shoulders drop. Maybe danger could be fun. Maybe being the grand prize had its perks.
And maybe... just maybe, tonight would be the night I realized how much fun danger could really be.
I set the wine bottle down, caught both Jay and Kay's eyes, and gave them a small, confident smirk. "Alright. Let's see what you've got."
Because the game had just begun-and Izuku Midoriya was never one to back down.
The wine was open, glasses filled, and the room buzzed with laughter and music. Nat had vanished to the kitchen to finish some snacks, leaving me with the duo I was already convinced could ruin lives-or at least my perfectly constructed composure.
Jay leaned forward again, elbows resting on his knees, smirk still in place. "So, Izuku... tell me something. What's the real you? Not the hero, not the grand prize, not the secret rich Midoriya everyone's whispering about-you."
I raised an eyebrow, letting my lips curl into a teasing smile. "The real me? That's... complicated. Dangerous to reveal, actually."
Kay snorted softly from the couch, a sound that went straight to my chest. "Oh, come on. You're here, aren't you? That's halfway dangerous already."
"Halfway?" I asked, leaning back a little, crossing my arms. "I think I'm all the way dangerous when I want to be."
Jay's smirk deepened, one hand brushing along the back of the couch as if to subtly claim space-yet leaving enough for me. "I like confidence," he said. "Even better, I like a challenge."
