(First Name's) POV
A pale tint of orange met my line of sight as I flew on Kiss, Coco's loyal animal companion and family member. The emperor crow cawed, gliding sideways at a steady, confident pace toward Coco's remote home, where I'd be staying for a few days at the gentleman's request.
A sudden shift of wind pressed against us, and muscular arms wrapped protectively around my waist. Instinctively, I clung to Coco, not wanting to fall from such dangerous heights. My reaction earned a soft, amused chuckle from the dark-haired man once our trajectory evened out.
"Still not used to flying, (First Name)-chan?" Coco teased. I sheepishly turned to meet the piercing brown eyes behind me. "Even though we've been flying together for several years?"
"Oh, hush. You know my fear of heights won't disappear that easily," I huffed, leaning back against Coco's chiseled chest. His hold around my waist loosened into a comfortable embrace. "Although I do appreciate you worrying about my safety."
"But of course," Coco said with a gentle closed-eye smile before resting his chin atop my head, a quiet sigh escaping him. His embrace was soothing as always. "It's my duty as your combo partner to keep you safe from any harm."
"Only as my combo partner?" I asked, wanting to clarify his words.
Coco let out a warm, hearty chuckle. His left hand slid to hold mine, guiding it upward so he could place a tender kiss on the back of my hand.
"And as your boyfriend as well," he corrected softly, lingering as he trailed more kisses along my skin. Heat emerged across my cheeks at his affection, and a sudden caw from Kiss pulled our attention.
"Yes, Kiss, you also have a duty to protect (First Name) and me," Coco agreed, and I couldn't help but giggle at the bird's timing.
It didn't take long to reach Coco's home, seeing a small, dome-shaped adobe structure perched atop a towering, thin rock pillar in the valley ahead. Kiss landed smoothly, and Coco disembarked before offering his hands to help me down from the legendary bird.
"Thank you, Kiss," I said with a tender smile, having a soft spot for the emperor crow. Kiss answered with a short caw and gently rubbed his beak against my cheek, his way of saying you're welcome.
"And what about me?" Coco asked, arms open and unmistakably expectant. I couldn't help the small smile forming on my lips.
"Such a clingy man," I teased. But it's one of the qualities I love about him. I stepped into his waiting arms, and he held me with the same warmth I eagerly returned.
"Thank you as always, my beloved Coco," I whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek. A faint blush colored his skin, and after that tender exchange, he offered me his arm. I slipped my hand into it, and he guided me toward his abode, one I had long since come to consider my home as well.

Author's Note:
Hey everyone! Just a little update after my long hiatus. I actually labeled this story as completed/discontinued, but I've decided to start updating some one-shots during my days off.
And yes, I survived, and I'm currently very addicted to the anime Toriko even though it came out back in 2011. But hey, it's never too late, right? 🥹💙
