Four Years Later…
LAYLA SULLIVAN'S sleep-deprived brain was joggled awake when her four year old son Dax Tegg jumped on the bed.
“Mom, didja hear that?'' He asked as he jumped up and down on the bed.
“What honey?” Layla asked.
“Spider-Man! There is gonna be another movie about Spider-Man and its named ‘The Adventures of Spider-Man’!” Dax screamed. Layla sat up and looked across the room to her TV screen. The logo bobbing at the corner of the screen was Nickelodeon.
“Its gonna be aw'sme, Mom.” Dax continued. The screaming wasn't unusual but Layla thought that she would be used to it by now. It was a typical wake-up-routine ever since Dax turned two. He would drag his pillow and blanket into Layla’s room, curl up at the foot of her bed watching TV ‘til Layla decided to wake up. Dax was still jumping up and down on the bed.
“You know what, Ace?” Layla asked as she made her way out of the bed.
''What Mom?'' he asked looking hopeful.
Aww, he looked soooo cute. “For waking mommy up like a gentleman, I am gonna give you something special.”
“…and that is?” Dax asked.
“A mommy hug!” Layla screamed as she tackled him at the knees and then captured him in a bear hug on the sheets. They were both laughing so hard when they broke apart.
''I am never letting you go, Mommy.” Dax said as he lay on her stomach.
“Me too...me too, sweetie.”
In that moment Layla wished and hoped that Dax would never let her go. She didn't want to get weepy so she changed the topic or rather the direction of her thoughts.
“How ‘bout breakfast?''
“Yay!” Dax yelled.
He launched himself from the bed and ran out of the room to the kitchen. Life with her son was always energetic and fun. She wished nothing would change. Her grandfather, Bart Quinn, was preparing breakfast.
“Good morning, granddaddy.” Layla said as she planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Morning sweetling, heard the commotion upstairs and was wondering if you needed my help from Mr. Macho over there.” Bart said as he gestured to Dax with amusement in his eyes.
“You should have cause I was really in trouble,” she replied smiling.
“I beat mom again gran'pa. “ Dax chirped from his seat.
''Ace here won. I guess he is getting stronger.'' Layla added for her son’s benefit.
“Gran'pa Lionell says that I am getting stronger. See, he said I’ve got muscles, like baseball players do.”
Layla and Bart both laughed at his cockiness.
“He is just like his father.” Bart said and Layla stiffened.
“Honey, I know you've given up on Dart but c'mon Dax needs male company.” Bart implored.
“That’s why he has you, Ceasar, Drake, and Lionell. You are all the male company he needs.” Layla defended.
“Honey, you know that’s not what I mean.”
“Granddad just let it go!'' Layla snapped as she grabbed a sandwich and walked out of the room.
''Dax remember to brush your teeth. We will be leaving soon.'' Layla shouted to Dax as she walked away.
Bart sighed heavily. Layla always turned defensive when it came to Dart. She didn’t want to talk about him and also didn’t want to forget him. As Lionell’s friend he loved Dart as a son but as Layla’s grandfather he would gladly shoot the boy for messing with his baby’s heart.
“I just hope she moves on before it’s too late.” Bart said sighing once again.
“Hurry up, Ace. I don’t think your momma is in a mood to be pissed this morning. ''Bart called to Dax.

DART TEGG knelt by his brothers grave. He had gotten into town the previous night and found out that Layla was living with her parents no more. LAYLA. The only thought that made him sane through all his dark days.
“Hi bro, how’s it going wherever you are? Hope you ain’t giving the angels any problems.” He chuckled as he said that.
“We were a great team, weren't we? The triple D mum use to call us. Yeah, yeah, I know ‘twas great, the bond we shared,” he took a deep breath and let it out trying to stop his tears. “I miss you a lot bro. Yeah I do, I miss you. Please forgive me for not being there for you that night, but if I had to do it again I'd still be with layla that night. I wanted you to know that man. I love you.” Dart said as he looked at his brother’s head stone. Just then, he noticed the engraving on the headstone close to his brother...it read:
MRS. LISA TEGG
GREAT MOTHER, WIFE AND GRANDMOTHER
WHAT!!!!! Mom was dead too? Oohhhmmiggadd.....
He couldn’t hold back his tears again. “Momm....what happened?”
Dart cried. He cried for a long time; he cried for the wasted years, for his confused and lost state, he cried for all the love lost. He cried for the empty shell of a man he had become. But he cried most especially for the unknown.
“I loved you Mom, even when you didn’t—I loved you mom, and I…I forgive you for what you said. I wish you were here with me. I really do miss you, Mum." He sobbed. He stiffened suddenly, slowly taking a whiff of the air. He usually smelt people before he saw them. He turned cautiously to look at the person behind him.
“Welcome son. I think it’s about time…” Lionel Tegg said standing behind him with his arms opened. Dart didn't want to be asked again, he rushed into his arms, crying all over again.
