Dan woke up beneath a black sky, his arms tingling and his legs completely numb. He tried to turn over, but received a horrible fright when a pale hand gently pushed him back to his original position. He stretched his neck and looked upwards to see a quite distressed face, with bright blue eyes and black hair contrasting against his snowy skin.

"Don't move or you won't heal properly," the stranger's voice informed him, lifting a small piece of damp material to rest on Dan's wrist. After receiving a questioning look, Phil responded by telling Dan the piece of cloth had a numbing remedy on it, as Dan had developed burns during his sleep.

"I don't understand. What happened? Who are you? Did Maria do this? What happened?" Dan stuttered out, his lips trembling as he spoke. Phil didn't know who Maria was, but he knew he had to try resolve the problem to allow Dan to sort out his mind.

"I'm Phil, and I was travelling here and I found you. It looks like you were a victim of dark magic, and by now, I think the sorcerer may have used manipulation of light to attack you." Dan hardly took in what Phil was saying, but smiled nevertheless and introduced himself as Dan of Alder Oak Village, descendant of the Kralin Bloodline.

Phil simply nodded and asked Dan if he was a sorcerer as well, because his recovery had been extremely impressive. Dan shook his head, wincing at the pain it caused and Phil sighed, baffled by the logic behind Dan's healing. Phil would have assumed that Dan simply had magical blood, but the Kralin Bloodline originated in England, not a place of magic. People who were magical that were living in England usually had bloodlines from elsewhere. The magical blood that had prevailed most was usually of Germanic or Irish origin, as that blood was thought to be part of the first sorcerer bloodlines.

Phil was pulled out of his thoughts by an almost silent cry, as Dan reached to grab his chest, a sudden pain surging through his body. Phil pulled Dan's t-shirt up to expose his chest, though Dan struggled, trying to push his shirt back down to hide his chest. Phil calmed him a little, and Dan allowed him to take off his shirt, revealing a bruised chest, with purple and grey colours gradienting into blues along his sides. Phil left Dan for a moment to collect water from the nearby stream, cupping his hands to contain it. He then tipped it over a piece of cloth he had from tearing apart an old shirt, and place the cloth on Dan's chest to cool him. Dan winced, squeezing his hand onto Phil's wrist, too embarrassed to cry in front of his new companion as he blinked back tears. Phil moved his hand to take Dan's in his, squeezing it comfortingly. Both tried to stay awake, though the two of them ended up drifting off, and if a person had happened to pass by, they would have seen a brown haired boy with his head on a pale boy's shoulder, with Phil's arm wrapped protectively around Dan, with Dan's fist clutching a clump of Phil's t shirt, and his other hand in Phil's.
