The crist summer morning air was like a rush to me. The leafs on the trees were a vibrating green and you could hear the men not far away working on mowing the grass. You could see the pine trees blowing in the breeze and the smell of fresh cut grass and wildflowers.
I got up off the bench and began walking toward the main building, North Island Naval Air Station Office. I knew that sometime soon I would be back out there in whichever country and saving lives. Though a part of me was saying that I couldn’t. Maybe that was the part of me that was in pain right now.
“Gracie! Hey!” my fellow teammate Austin yelled.
Turning my head, I saw that not only Austin was coming over but Jonathan was with him. Austin was about four inches taller than me. His hair was a sandy blonde with a hint of a darker brown. Face was clean cut with a strong jaw sticking out as his glistening sea blue eyes looked at me from a distance.
Jonathan though, wasn’t looking at me. He was staring at the girls that General Harper had on base. A part of me wanted to snap but I held back. I know later I can go to the shooting arena and blow heads off of dummies.
The only part of me that I hated was the fact that I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. Jonathan could be counted as one of those ‘Mr. Know-it-all’s’. There was a side of him that could be the geek, the hero and also the worst side of him, the bad guy.
I could see his light brown eyes piercing into the backends of the girls that were walking away. Outside of his eyes, his build was something I never would have thought a guy would have. He was physically fit but then again if you saw him on a Sunday behind the Tv you would never think that he was a Seal.
“Where you going?” Austin said jarring my thoughts out of my head.
“Inside. I need to talk to General for a moment. Why?” I said with a serious voice trying to see if they would notice that truly that not why I am going inside.
“You sure that’s what you are doing?” Austin asked again.
There was something about the way he was looking at me that I knew I was caught. But not for one sec did I let on that I was.
“Yes I am sure. Why are you even questioning me?” I started again. I didn’t like people knowing that the stitches in my chest were painful.
“Well, General went into town. He told us that he had nothing better to do.” he began. “And he told us that we were in charge of watching you.”
His wide, ear to ear grin made me think that I was like really into trouble. Though I knew that Austin just couldn’t wait for it. He knew that I was really unsteady with my health right now. Maybe that is why he is smiling the way he is. Could he be thinking about taking care of me while I’m like this?
Not meaning to I laughed just a little bit. When I realized what I did both of the guys were looking at me. That just made it even more hilarious to me just for the fact that they were thinking what the hell. Before I knew it, they both were staring at me like ‘is she going crazy’ or ‘she is crazy’.
“What are you laughing at?” Jonathan asked with a voice that sounded like he wanted to hit me.
Without even telling them anything or explain, I burst into laughter again. I knew that they wanted me to get better because I am apart of their team and if I’m down then they are down also. The thing that really got me going is when they look at me like I am crazy.
“I’m laughing at the fact that you both are looking at me like I have gone crazy.” I said with a fierce voice while calming my smiling.
“Well you know what, I do think that you are crazy!” He yelled right in front of my face.
I stood there for a moment taking in what his voice was like. Then I smiled, patted his arm then turn and walked away. Yes, I knew that right now at this moment that I was walking away that Austin was giving Jonathan a mean look and mostly telling him ‘good job you idiot’. Though I really don’t care.
Jonathan always pisses me off. He doesn’t like to laugh not unless it is with a pretty blonde that will spread her legs for him in a heartbeat. Life around him is no fun. He just is a joy killer to everything. No wonder most of the girls he goes out with leaves him.
“Gracie!” Austin screamed for me as I heard his and someone else’s (Jonathan’s) footsteps.
“Leave me alone. I don’t need no damn babysitters. Just leave. Go sleep with some girl that most likely has a STD!” I said as I pick up my pace.
Before I knew it, I couldn’t hear the footsteps behind me anymore. That I was thankful for but I still wasn’t ready for what was about to happen.
“Gracie? Is that you?” Quickly I turn to my left to see one of my ex boyfriends, Derek.
He was standing in light blue jeans with a brown tank top on. His hair was slightly messy and his green eyes staring at me. Right below his left eye it look like someone hit him. A few years back he was about an inch taller, now looking at him he was about three inches.
“Um. Hi.” I said shocked with how he got through the gates.
“Hello.” He said was his eyes flickered as he took in what I was wearing.
Then and there I felt like I did when he looked at me once before, scared. Derek wasn’t a nice guy. I mean he was at first and when people are around but when we are by ourselves he is very forceful without a doubt. That’s why I broke it off with him. Though, he did track me down and mostly beat the living shit out of me.
After that thought came across, I was afraid that was why he was here. He wanted to get back at me. For the break up, getting him arrested, and everything else in between.
I know that he could tell I was scared. His mouth lifted into a smile as he started walking toward me. Trying to step back I ran into the trunk of a tree.
“You know why I’m here. Just wait to see what I’m going to do.” He said as he showed his teeth.
In a rush I turned and began to run in the direction where I last saw Austin and Jonathan. All of the sudden pain shot through my head. He had a grip of my hair and he was pulling really hard.
“Oww!” I screamed trying to make someone hear me.
“I will walk you out of this base and you will not doing anything to stop me. Understand?” He said as his lips kissed my ear and moved my hair around.
All I could do was shake my head. I know that I can’t fight right now. If he was to find out about my stomach he will use it against me in every way, shape and form. As we started walking I felt his boner against my lower back. To a point I knew that he will do worst than before.
I smiled my way out of the base and got into his car. It was the same one as it was when we were going out. That scared me even more. Why would he keep this car? He was very forceful the last time I was in it. Is that why he still has it?
“Now we are going to get very busy, sweetheart.” He said as his hand drifted to my thigh and he pulled into an alley downtown. “And now one will hear you but me.”
