Chapter 17 - Power Overload

Reader's POV

You look forward as Strucker walks up to you and smiles as he says, "Well done retrieving not only the Miracle, but also Project Deathlok and The Winter Soldier."

"Just doing my job sir," You say keeping your face devoid of emotion. He had to believe that you still didn't remember Bucky and that you had no emotional attachment. As he joins the group leading Bucky away you sneak a worried glance his way before following the party leading Deathlok and Lincoln down to the holding cells. After making sure they are safe you melt the locks on their door making sure no one could get into their cells and hurt them.

You glance at Deathlok as his eyes open and you give him a stealthy nod before leaving the room to head up to Strucker's office. Today was the day, Coulson and the Calvary would be there soon and the Inhumans would be free. All you had to do was somehow protect Bucky without giving anything away. You let out a heavy sigh as you say to yourself, 'Easier said than done.'

BUCKY's POV

"Why did you turn yourself in Soldier?" Strucker asks as men start strapping Bucky into the machine that erases his mind.

"I came back for _____." He says as he clenches his fists tight.

"Then I think you have a fruitless mission, Nexus belongs here with HYDRA."

"No she belongs with those who love her, not some power hungry psycho of a father."

"So you know the truth, I see your memories have returned; too bad she doesn't know who you are."

'That's what you think.'

As if on cue she walks into the room and stands beside Strucker. "Ah Nexus how nice of you to join us," Strucker says as she stands devoid of emotion her eyes cold and empty. Was she only playing a part or was she really empty? She gives the man a quick nod before moving to a far away corner. "Don't worry Bucky, the Calvary are on their way. I won't let him hurt you again." He hears inside his voice and his body relaxes. She was still on his side. He knew what Maria had shown him had been a lie.

"Now Soldier, are you ready to once again become the 'fist of HYDRA'?"

"No," he hears a voice say and looking over realizes that it had come from _____.

"Nexus?" Strucker says as he moves over to his daughter. "What are you doing?"

"I'm the Fist of HYDRA, I don't need him." OUCH! seriously _____ tell me how you really feel. His heart clenches at the words and he continues to play a part as he stares at her his eyes filling with sadness.

"That's right my child, you are; but you can't do everything on your own. I need you both now that the twins are gone." Strucker replies as he touches her cheek making Bucky tense in anger against his bonds. "Prep him, I need this done quickly." Bucky watches as Strucker starts to leave when all of the sudden the building shakes around them.

"Sir it's SHIELD and the avengers!" A man yells out over the intercom and Bucky smirks as he says, "I guess there won't be any wiping done today." He quickly uses his metal arm and breaking free of his bonds says, "Now if you don't mind I'll be taking _____ home with me."

Strucker glares at him before saying, "I'll take great pleasure in Nexus ripping your mind apart." He turns to her and with a nod disappears down the hall. Bucky looks at _____ who looks back at him with anger in her eyes and he pauses. What's going on? Suddenly a bright blue light emanates from within her causing Bucky to lift his arms and shield himself only to find that nothing happens.
