Waking up, you heard Sasha's distinct snoring from the other side of the dormitory cabin. Rubbing your eyes, you concentrated on the oak ceiling, trying to listen to see if anyone else was awake yet. You realized no one was awake. After all, the sun hadn't even begun to rise yet.
Quietly uncovering yourself, so as not to wake anyone that was sleeping with the rustling of your sheets, you slipped off of your bunk and onto the floor to see that no one was awake yet.
You stretched and walked outside of the large cabin you shared with the other girls in your training squad. Sitting down on the stairs, you shivered a little bit in the early morning air.
"It's almost been four years since Shiganshina," your mind reminded you. "That's almost four years since mom and dad..."
You shook your head. Dwelling on their death wouldn't do much for you. Especially now. You were here to fight for your family where they couldn't.
You looked across the large gravel path to the boys' cabin. If you weren't here under the circumstances that you were, you may actually consider this all to be fun- much like a summer camp.
Hearing the scuffling of boots, you stood and looked in the direction it was coming from. A group of four men were walking in your direction, and judging by their uniforms, they were obviously superiors to you.
As they came closer, you balled your right fist and placed it over your heart in salute. After all, it was what you were supposed to do. When they walked by, one particular person caught your eye. You apparently caught theirs as well.
You looked Commander Smith in the eye as he passed by with the other regiment commanders, making sure to show no change in facial expression as you looked at him. He was doing the same- almost as if he were sizing you up. He then smoothly redirected the attention of his icy eyes back to where he was walking.
Your eyes followed the men for a little bit before you turned around and walked back into the girls' cabin that you shared with the other trainees. Upon walking in, you saw that Mikasa, another trainee, was already awake. She briefly looked at you, then turned back to putting her boots on. You nodded to her, walked over to your belongings, and grabbed your clothing, making your way into the bathroom to get ready for today's training.
"What is with that Commander?" you asked yourself, throwing your (H/C) into a high ponytail. "I can't tell whether he's okay with me or not."
You grabbed your white button-up shirt and put it on.
"When he let me out of the jail and forced me to train... was it of some inconvenience to him?" you continued to ponder.
Finishing getting ready, you then walked out of the bathrooms and into the Mess Hall. It was still a little early, so a few people weren't there yet. Nevertheless, you grabbed a tray of food like you normally did, found the table that you sat at by yourself everyday, and silently began eating your food.
Eating alone didn't really bother you. In fact, you never talked to anyone unless absolutely necessary, such as during basic training. You just didn't see the point of talking superfluously. In your opinion, it made one seem brash if they spoke constantly.
Glancing around the hall as you swallowed a bite of egg, your eyes landed on the trainee that was two years younger than you named Eren. He happened to be from the same town you were, although you never knew him there. He was once again talking to a few others about what happened in Shiganshina, as he did everyday. You listened to him drone on with the same story he told, each time with more rage than before. You didn't blame him though. He watched his mother be killed like you watched your own parents, and escaped with Mikasa and Armin like you escaped with (B/N) and (S/N). He just handled the pain and memories differently than you did.
Giving a small sigh, you looked back down to your plate.
"If we choose regiments today, I guess today is the day I go to the Scouting Regiment," you reminded yourself, watching as an angry Eren stood abruptly from his crowded table.
Commander Shadis, your trainee squad's instructor, then barged in and began questioning others on the ruckus.
Yes, for an odd day, this was seemingly normal.
