You watch outside the window as the snow storm rages on. Most of the other Alexandrians and new arrivals from the Kingdom were able to gather in the common building together, but you got stuck in your house. You stare at the white sheets of snow, hoping that everyone made it inside safely. That is, until you see a dark blob roaming through the storm. You see them stumbling around, caught up in the wind and desperately searching for the nearest building. Without a second thought you throw on your coat and boots and run outside. You sprint over to the stranger and grab their arm.
"Come on, let's get you inside!" you yell over the howling of the wind. The two of you stumble through as you feel the icy snow pricking at your face. You slowly make your way up the porch steps, and head inside. The wind slams the door behind you and you huff to catch your breath. The stranger takes a moment to catch their breath before unwrapping their scarf and removing their hat, only to reveal a familiar eye patched face. His pink face stares at you a bit blankly at first before realizing who's saved him.
"H-hey. Thanks." he smirks and lets out a light chuckle.
"Carl what were you doing out there?" you ask him in disbelief as you rip off your coat and boots.
"I was trying to get Negan. He's gonna freeze to death out there." he says urgently.
"Michonne already got him. He's in the common room with everyone else." He releases a sigh of relief.
"Ok that's...that's good." You take a moment to look at each other awkwardly. Spending a blizzard locked inside with your ex boyfriend certainly wasn't your ideal situation...but you weren't about to send him back out there.
"Well, make yourself comfortable." you say and head off to the kitchen to make some tea.
Carl takes a look around as he sees all the adjustments you've made and decorations you've added since he left. Memories flood back to him of times you spent together here. The times you've cuddled on the couch and made delicious hot meals in the kitchen. He feels his chest warm up as he stares up through the banister at the top of the steps. He remembers the first time he saw you after the apocalypse, with you spying down at him and Deanna.
"You want any tea?" you shout from the kitchen, shaking him from this thought.
"Uh yes, please." he replies. You hear his footsteps enter the kitchen as you set 2 mugs on the counter. He sits on a stool at the island across from you and continues looking around at his old home.
"I haven't changed much around the house really." you say to him. He nods.
"Yeah. Place still looks nice though." he says matter-of-factly. You awkwardly sit in silence until it's finally interrupted by the kettle squealing on the counter. You pour the hot water in, steep the tea bags, and take your mug into the living room.
"How's uh...Jessica?" you ask as you sit down. His body stutters as he sits down next to you, seemingly taken aback by your question. He blows on his tea to cool it down before answering.
"I broke up with Jessica last week." You furrow your eyebrows at him.
"Why's that?" He scoffs, almost as if it's a stupid question.
"She was just something to pretend I was moving on. She was nothing special or important to me. She was nice and she liked me, and that was all I needed...at the time." You nod as you take a timid sip. You feel your hopes rising up again, but quickly try and quell it. "Plus she said awesome in like, every sentence. That was really getting on my nerves." you chuckled, as you very much noticed that when you met her and thought it was ridiculous.
