Elena pulled out of the motel parking lot and waved once more to Dean as she drove away. She was a little sad to leave her new acquaintances. Not so much Katherine, but there was definitely something about Dean that she couldn't shake him from her mind. She was also concerned about Stefan. He hadn't called her back or texted her, then again she didn't leave a voicemail. She just wasn't used to not having him call her right away to make sure she was okay. She would need to get used to it new life, new routine she smiled to herself and turned up the radio. About 2 hours down the highway her stomach began to growl. She realized she never had breakfast after making sure Dean was okay, she just left. A few miles later she pulled into a rest stop. The parking lot was primarily truckers and a few cars mostly families on the road for a vacation it seemed. Elena walked into the restaurant and took a seat at the bar. A pudgy smiling waitress in her 50's came by with a note pad.

"What can I get you sweetie?"

"Um you have pancakes?" Elena smiled back.

"Yes mam."

"Great I'll take some pancakes and a coffee, light and sweet." The waitress wrote down the order an passed it to the kitchen and turned to make Elenas coffee. Elenas attention was drawn to a small TV mounted on the wall when she over heard "Local bar on out skirts of Mystic Falls, police baffled by eye witness reports" Elena watched the story in shock. They played a segment of the girls Stefan had compelled. Elena was filling with anger and guilt. This was all her fault, how could she think that she could live a normal life after everything that has happened. The waitress placed her pancakes in front of her. Elena continued to watch so she could be sure their were no fatalities. She was relieved until the bobcat attack story aired after the bar incident. This surely had the sheriff suspicious, and now there were hunters near Mystic Falls also. Dean would never understand, he would kill the Salvatores the moment he knew what they were, and from the sounds of it, they were both spinning out of control. Elena took a few bites out of her pancakes and 2 large sips of her coffee, threw some money on the counter, and ran out.

She swung by the motel first hoping Sam and Dean hadn't heard of the incidents. She ran to the room and as she went to knock, Cas opened the door.

"Elena?" He asked a bit confused tilting his head.

"Yeah, hi Cas. Is um Dean here?" Elena asked shuffling a bit anxiously with her hands in her jean pockets.

"You just missed them they went to investigate some murders in Mystic Falls."
Elena sighed. then she thought of Katherine. Katherine had always had a soft spot for Stefan surely she would help even if it meant her and Elena had to work together.

"What about Katherine is she here?" Elena asked excitedly.

"No she went to see some old friends, the Salvatores."

"Thanks Cas." Elena gave him a hug and turned to run to her car.

"Elena wait, you should know, Katherine went looking like you. She said she was suppose to be dead so she needed to look like you since you're alive and out of town. I can see how you being back may cause a problem."

"Its okay Cas, I know what she's doing. Atleast I hope I do." She tried reassuring herself as she got into Damons car and headed back into Mystic Falls.

Elena pulled up to the Salvatore house quickly parking besides Carolines car. She ran up to the front door and grabbed for the knob. She stopped herself, after the way she left things just barging in felt weird. She reached up and slammed the door knocker. She wiped her palms on her jeans she hadn't realized how shakey she was. She knocked again, hoping she wasn't too late. Just then the door opened. It was Damon he looked at her like he'd seen a ghost.
