Elena hesitated in the bunker door way. Dean stopped when he noticed she wasn't behind him. He stood and watched her for a moment. She had a tense and worrisome expression on her face. Dean knew bringing her along was not a good idea, but he knew how she felt and that she wouldn't give up. At least this way he could watch out for her, even if that in it self was a nuisance. He walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder.

"Hey kiddo, you know you don't have to go." He figured it couldn't hurt to try one more time to get her to stay.

"Yes I do. Caroline wouldn't leave me in Hell, she would come for me. I have to go Dean." She turned to meet his eyes. They were glossy and glowing almost chartreuse in the moon light. "I'm just afraid that we may not come back. This is the first time I felt home in a long time. I don't know if I can handle losing anyone else." Her eyes started to well but she didn't cry. Dean held her face in his hands and stared into her soulful dark eyes.

"That's not gonna happen okay." She wanted to believe him. She turned her head breaking their eye contact. Dean brought her face back up to meet his eyes again. "Listen to me Lena, nothing is going to happen to you, or any of us. Not on my watch okay kiddo? We're gonna save your friend and we're gonna come back here and this will be your home as long as you want it. You understand?" They stared into each others eyes intently for what felt like hours. Elena finally nodded and smiled. Dean made her feel safe, and like it was going to all work out. He hugged her tightly inhaling the scent of her hair. They broke apart slowly and their lips began to take over. They were centimeters apart when Sam interrupted with a cough. Elena quickly snapped out of her romantic trance and headed toward the car giving Sam a quick smile. Dean rolled his eyes in frustration and flew his arms in the air at Sam.

"Lets go Dean we don't have time for this. We're taking her into Hell, and we don't exactly have good luck with bringing people on our missions in case you forgot." Sam was obviously upset and concerned.

"I know Sammy, I know." Dean patted Sam on the shoulder locked the bunker and headed to the Impala. Sam sighed and followed behind him.

They had been driving for about two hours when Castiel appeared in the back seat with Elena. She jumped and screamed punching Cas in the nose. He grabbed his face and realigned his nose.

"I'm sorry you scared the crap out of me. I'm still not really used to you appearing suddenly."

"Trust me you never get used to it sweetheart." Dean replied shooting Cas an aggravated look. "You got a nice right hook though." He grinned.

"It's okay Elena you can't do any permanent damage." Castiel assured her. Elena smiled awkwardly. "We're meeting Meg at a devils gate, we're a few hours away." Castiel reached over the back seat and pointed to a location on the map Sam was holding. Dean glanced over at the map and nodded. Elena was trying to look over the seat but she couldn't really see what they were pointing at. She sat back and sighed, it didn't matter any way she was following the Winchesters to save Caroline no matter where they ended up. She gazed quietly out the window. Dean glanced in the rear view at her and she felt his stare. She turned her head and met his eyes, she gave him a shy smile and turned back to the window. Dean couldn't help but grin. When he turned his eyes back to the road he noticed Sam staring at him.

    "What?"

"Nothing Dean, nothing." Sam grinned shaking his head. He liked Elena and he liked that Dean liked her. If they made it out of Hell alive maybe there was a chance for Dean and Elena. Maybe he could see his brother happy. However there was always that sense of dread. Everyone they had ever loved or cared for died, and it was usually their fault.  Dean gave him a look like he knew what Sam was thinking. They both looked in the rear view at the vulnerable brunette gazing out the window. Castiel tilted his head noticing the boys expressions. He looked at Elena with confusion, and then back to Dean who was now watching the road. He shrugged and decided it must be a human thing. Castiel had his own concerns this evening. He wanted to know why Katherine became a vampire, and he hoped he could still save her soul. He thought her connection with Dean in purgatory would mean something. He hoped Crowley hadn't harmed her. Meg told him that Kat and Crowley seemed pretty cozy. Cas wasn't sure what that meant, but the more he asked the angrier Meg seemed.
