Corey's P.O.V

"It's been two weeks. Who was the last person to talk to her?" I asked, standing behind Paul as he sat at the picnic table, with the guys.
"I spoke to her in music, when she went off." Chris said, next to Clown, opposite Paul.
"She doesn't call, text, or answer any of us..." Clown added, placing his phone down on the table.
"Is it bad I really like her?" I admitted, taking the seat next to Paul.
"Is that why you and Joey had a fight? 'Cause Joey said he liked her in detention?" Sid asked, as if his jigsaw puzzle was finally coming together.
"Yeah... She's just different. A good different." I said, mainly to myself.
Joey nodded.
Me and him agreed that which ever one of us she likes, the other has to accept it, but that failed, when Joey got a girlfriend. A girl in his Maths class... I forget her name. I've only been thinking about Cortney lately...

I saw Cortney hugging a guy by the fire exit. She always goes there now, though when it rains she hide somewhere in the school.
I'm banned from the library, so she probably goes in there...
"Who the hell is that?" I asked, looking at the guy. He looked as if he knew Cortney very well, but I'd never met him before.
Everyone looked over and mumbled 'I don't know' or just shrugged.
"We were her only friends." Brenna commented, seeing the guy hold a hand out to Cortney.
She took the guys hand and walked over to a group of people. Two guys, not including the one she was with, and a girl. The girl had black hair, with a green fringe and all the guys pretty much had brown hair, but in different styles.
I felt like I just had to know who those guys were. I just wanted Cortney back.
They seemed to welcome her, happily, but it didn't sit right with me. Cortney doesn't speak! She doesn't just make friends like this. I know her.

"I think the tall one is in our PE class." Craig spoke up, pointing at Paul and himself.
"Oh, the guy who refuses to take part. He's comes up with every excuse under the sun, to not play a part and the teach just buys it... Unbelievable." Paul added, shaking his head.
Cortney sat next to the guy she seemed to know, on the bench they had occupied on the other side of the school yard.
"What do we know about them? Is Cortney in trouble?" I asked the table.
"We can find out." Paul offered.
"Do it." I made a fist on the table, looking at Cortney. I'm not about to lose her.

. . .

After school I followed Cortney home. Not intentionally, but we lived on the same street and she just happened to be walking a head of me.
As the wind blew, I caught a whiff of her deodorant. Pomegranate.
She smelt great, as creepy as that sounded.
I shook my head and crossed the street, going straight home. She wasn't going to talk to me, so approaching her was out of the question, and her parents kept telling me she was studying or to busy to come to the door. I gave up after three days, leaving her parents in peace.

It just wasn't right. Something wasn't adding up and it started when everyone was talking about her and looking at her.
Either I've missed something big, or there's something about Cortney that I just don't know.
I pulled my house key out my jacket pocket and placed it in the keyhole, about to go in.
"Cort!" A guy called at the end of the street.
I looked over and it was the prick from before. He met Cortney at the bottom of her drive and she hugged him, making me growl to myself.
She smiled, taking his hand and leading him inside.

Now, that didn't imply they were an item, as I know Cortney, and that was just her way of leading you in the direction she was going.
The guy started talking to her, but I didn't know what it was about.
I unlocked my front door and let myself in, going straight upstairs, to my room, ignoring my mom.
It was just us two, my stepdad was in and out of the house. I didn't really have a relationship with my stepdad, but me and mom were fine. We were good.
My dad left, not long after I was born, and mom raised me alone for the first few years, before she met my stepdad.
I didn't like him, as he made me do house chores, and do my homework, as soon as I got home. He was a dick, but mom loved him. I could see that.
I wish someone looked at me, the way mom looks at my stepdad...

I stayed home, up in my room all day. Mom didn't seem to mind.
I tried to watch Star Wars, but my mind went to Cortney. I tried to write a song, but my mind was on Cortney. I cleaned my room, but it took me ages, as I kept looking out my window, waiting for this guy to leave Cortney's house.
I sat on my bed, drawing in my notebook, when I saw movement, outside Cortney's house.
I got up and looked out my window, abandoning everything.
The guy walked out the house, with Eric, before they climbed in Eric's car.
Cortney ran out, handed something to Eric, before she waved at them and headed back inside.
Eric pulled out the drive and drove off...
"How the fuck does he know you?!" I argued, looking at Cortney's house.
"Corey!" My stepdad told me off for yelling.
"Sorry!" I could not care less. "You dick." I muttered under my breath.
I lay on my bed and groaned, somehow falling asleep.

. . .

I was pushed out of bed, all of a sudden and looked up to see Paul, smiling at me, stood on the other side of my bed.
"Why?!" I looked at him, unamused. "Who let you in?"
"You invited me over for dinner, 'cause step-dick is here, remember?... Come on." He smiled, heading out my room.
"Forgot about that..." I whispered, running a hand through my hair.
I grabbed a black beanie and shoved it on, following Paul out my room. I could smell my moms cooking, spaghetti... Yum.
"I don't know the guys name, but he's clean. Cortney's not in trouble. He doesn't smoke, he doesn't go to parties. He actually sounds really dull..." Paul said, as we headed downstairs.
"At least she's OK..." I shrugged, leading the way into the dinning room. "Wait, how did you find this out?" I grabbed his arm stopping him in his tracks.
"Pulled a few strings. That's what friends do." Paul smirked at me.
"I love ya, man!" I grinned at him, knowing his tricks all too well.
