Not long after Once-ler arrived in his office, a live band began to perform for the gathering crowd as the day's celebrations began. The entire event was carefully set up to promote as many of Once-ler's products as possible. With various advertisements, including a replica of Once-ler's billboard, being placed throughout the venue. As a blimp featuring the company slogan 'You Need a Thneed' flew overhead, the kiosks set up down below sold thneeds to customers fresh off the assembly line, further increasing the company's chances of both manufacturing and selling the millionth thneed on the same day. Meanwhile, numerous concession stands also offered various menu items from Once-ler's restaurants.
Even Melvin was brought out of his barn to help further promote Thneed inc. Supervised by his stable hand, Melvin wore a sandwich board bearing the words 'Everybody Needs a Thneed' just as he did back in the day when Once-ler tried to sell his thneeds at the gazebo. In addition, a makeshift stage, which featured a mysterious sign hidden by a red curtain, sat in the middle of the venue, where Once-ler's chief operating officer would make his speech, and a local company would make a special announcement.
As the festivities continued, Once-ler got up from his work and went over to the balcony to watch the events unfold. "How heartwarming...how very heartwarming..." Once-ler murmured to himself with a smile as he clapped along to the music, temporarily forgetting all of his stress and worries for a moment, until a sharp sting from his injured hand caused him to wince in pain.
A few moments later, the band paused the music as the ceremony officially began. And the chief operating officer, surrounded by Once-ler's immediate family and top executives, stepped onto the stage and began his speech. "Hello everyone, and welcome," he greeted the crowd. "I want to thank you all for joining us today as we celebrate, perpetuate, and demonstrate, our love for the thneed, an amazing product that started a thriving industry, in addition to honoring the man that started it all...The Once-ler, founder and president of Thneed inc." the chief operating officer proclaimed as he gestured towards the office balcony, where Once-ler waved to the cheering crowd below.
When the applause died down, the chief operating officer continued. "But first, the head of Thneedville Automotive would like to honor our company further by making a special announcement!" he told the crowd before stepping aside to him the mic.
