Kal's POV
I felt it from afar, that familiar hum of our fated bond calling to me. The invisible threads of fate that bound us, once slackened by distance, now flailed with all-consuming persistence, reaching out and tightening around me with ferocious cutting.
As we approached the Pack, the sensation intensified, pervasive in its conquest to remind me that what lies dormant is never truly gone. I was certain that the workings of fate were punishing our separation. This fated bond is inescapable. That remains unchanged now, just as it had been before. So, Tully, do you feel it too?
My mate. Because I can. I can feel you with visceral clarity. Everything within me demands that I see you. Now. All the plans I had made for our reunion are unravelling under this wretched urge.
I dismounted from the vehicle, unheeding the susurrations of the car's remaining occupants. A madness was rapidly overtaking me. Inhaling the wind-scattered remnants of your scent, I pushed my nose to untangle it from copious others. Every breath of it felt indispensable to my existence, just like air, water, beauty and everything meaningful about this world. And I just happened to be choking, thirsting and despairing. Thought gave way to instinct, man to wolf. Moving us feverishly as one towards our undoing.
Lights in the distance parted the darkness of the forest of No-Man's Land. By now I was actively fighting Sentinel for control. I knew that today more than ever, I had to tightened the metaphorical leash around his neck, and sequester him just that little bit further into my consciousness. These months away have driven him to volatility, made him brittle, arid even. And you are like an intoxicating oasis.
I took longer than usual to transform back into my human form, banishing Sentinel into my Sphere of Sentience proving more arduous than anticipated.
Dressing with intent, as though clothing my clambering thoughts, I buttoned them up against my skin allowing no escape.
The lantern lit pathway ahead felt more like a gateway. I walked through it, punchering the veil and entering the world beyond it to see you.
