Grand Finale

     Matthew and Amajiki stood across from each other, expressions neutral. It wasn't as if they were mad, at each other or the situation. They understood that for one of them to win the other would have to lose, it was simply the pressure of it being the Grand Finals that was bearing down on them. The cheers of the audience had hardly bothered Matthew at this point, but he was surprised at how well Amajiki seemed to be taking it now. They were mere seconds away from their big showdown and it was only his hands that shook, exhibiting some level of change from earlier in the day. The two had decided not to exchange any words before the match, both to keep their emotions in check and to not escalate any tension they might have been feeling. 

     "ALRIIIIIIIGHT EVERYBODY!!! ARE YOU READY FOR THE ONE, THE ONLY, GRAND FINALE TO UA HIGH SCHOOL'S ANNUAL SPORTS FESTIVAL?!!" The crowd cheered even louder than they had been already. "THAT'S WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR! NOW, LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR OUR TWO FINALISTS THIS YEAR!!!" More cheers ensued. "On the left, hailing from the United States, is Class 1-A's explosive powerhouse, having clawed his way up through the bracket in a series of uber-intense matches... MATTHEW CLOUSE!!!" To Matthew, it still felt weird to have so many people cheering for him. "And on the right, also a member of Class 1-A, a young man of many talents and transformations, the swiss-army-knife of the animal kingdom... AMAJIKI TAMAKI!!!" 

     "NOW THAT INTRODUCTIONS ARE OUT OF THE WAY... ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE?!! WITHOUT ANY FURTHER ADO...

     1...

     LET'S GOOOOO!!!" 

     Instantly, Matthew leaped high into the air above Amajiki. A wave of tentacles swept over the ground below him, kicking up a healthy amount of dust. Angling his body downwards, an explosion catapulted Matthew to the ground as he readied a flaming axe kick. Amajiki responded swiftly, using his other hand to send even more octopus tentacles out to intercept him. Kicking two out of the way and knocking another two aside with a backhand, Matthew couldn't stop the last of the 5 from slamming into his stomach. Rather than let it knock him away he held on tight, wrapping it under his arm and pulling as hard as he could. Amajiki was yanked into the air, catching him by surprise. 

     He quickly sprouted a pair of wings, flying even higher into the air as he dragged Matthew with him. Amajiki quickly flipped over and started to dive straight towards the ground, ready to slam Matthew into it as hard as he could. Explosions at Matthew's feet helped him pull on the tentacle hard enough to yank Amajiki out of his dive, straining his shoulder and stopping his momentum midair. Matthew pulled even harder on the tentacle, more explosions at his arms and feet giving him the leverage he needed to swing Amajiki through the air in circles. Before Amajiki could stop him, he raised the tentacle high above his head and swung it downwards as hard as he could. Amajiki was sent hurtling to the ground, narrowly flapping his wings to slow his descent and lessen the impact. Matthew landed some ways away, using a small blast to break his fall. 

     Not letting a single second go to waste he catapulted himself at Amajiki, a burning fist cocked back and readied. Amajiki dove out of the way, narrowly dodging as Matthew's fist cratered the ground with a massive explosion. He continued to give chase, Amajiki unable to entirely keep up with the speed of his onslaught. Every time he would make space Matthew would be back on top of him in a flash, fiery punches and kicks tearing through concrete and searing octopus flesh. A furious straight kick slammed into Amajiki's gut, blasting him across the concrete and burning away part of his gym uniform.  He rolled to his feet and looked to Matthew, his eyes widening in surprise. Matthew stood 10 meters away, flames casting shadows on everything but his eyes. Those misshapen wings from before had come back, writhing in the air behind him. For a moment he looked terrifying to Amajiki, his figure obscured in shadow save for his hazel eyes piercing through.
