Tap ... tap ... tap
Mandy McGlynn continues to tap away on the keyboard in front of her while reaching over every now again to sip away at the pipping hot cup of coffee beside her. Sitting in her favourite booth at the local coffee shop, she finds inspiration in the sounds and people that surround her.
As her phone buzzes she looks down at the screen to see that she's once again lost track of time while edging closer towards completing the follow up to her current best-selling book, "From Apples to The Altar."
Letting out a sigh, she looks around at the booths and tables watching people sitting there conversing, laughing, hugging and even stealing kisses when they think no one else is looking and wishes that she had someone to share her booth with. She was previously in a long-term relationship but it became apparent to both of them that they had different priorities and expectations of life and themselves and resulted in a failed marriage and overall hesitance to jump back into the dating pool.
Packing up her belongings, she stands up, walks over and disposes of the now empty coffee cup into the garbage can before sliding her sunglasses on and heading back out into the Florida sunshine.
The same events happen frequently over the next couple weeks until finally she smiles while typing out the words THE END. Not meaning the end of the Royal Blue series only this particular book in what she hopes will evolve into a five-book series. Each of the storylines feature different members of the Thomas clan as they work the land that's been in the family for generations and learn that there's more to life and living than what their 100 acres can provide.
Allowing herself a few days to separate from the screen and book despite her agent's constant messages asking if she's done yet; she sits back down and reads it from beginning to end, making a few minor alterations prior to saving it on a USB.
New Message
Mandy: It's done!
Agent DiDi: That makes it sound like you just murdered someone.
Mandy: What if I did?
Agent DiDi: Please tell me you didn't knock off Opa; I love him!
Mandy: Don't worry Opa is still alive and kicking at least until the next book. Shall I call a messenger service or will you make the arrangements?
Agent DiDi: Have you printed it yet?
Mandy: Not yet, no. I was waiting for your instructions on how they wanted it delivered.
Agent DiDi: One physical copy and the digital file. I'll have a messenger on your doorstep first thing in the am. Can't wait to read it!
Mandy: Sounds good.
A few weeks later, she's curled up on the couch with both of her cats asleep on top of her, the room is filled with the sounds of her phone ringing out in the distinct ringer she has set aside for DiDi Haračić, her agent with at the Angel City Agency.
"It's must be important if you're calling rather than emailing or texting."
DiDi chuckles. "Indeed, it is. They love the second book and it's getting added to the cue to be printed and out before Christmas."
"That's amazing! So, guess I get to keep the advance now huh?'
"Yes, along with your standard percentage of the sales. I have another reason for calling though; how would you feel about doing a book signing tour?"
"Tour? Would it involve leaving Florida?"
"Yes, my naïve friend; there are plenty more States to see other than Florida and that dreadful New Jersey."
