The unexpected appearance of Baby Hemmings #4. A whirlwind year, full of chaos & love 💕

March 2025, your POV:

Life was seemingly perfect. Our youngest baby, Cohen, was finally sleeping through the night and everything was mellowing out after completing our family in October.  The girls were settling in as big sisters and were doing the best job. I was finishing up a shower when I was interrupted by Iris running into my room.

"Mama!" she yells, bumping into my legs. "Hi my dear. What's the matter?" I asked her and ran my fingers through her hair. "Baby Coco is crying. Daddy says he needs to eat. You hafta feed him." She rambled on as I dried my hair. "Okay. Thank you." I sighed. "Tell Daddy I'll be right down." She nodded and ran back down to where Luke and the other kids were. How could I add anymore to this life?

After feeding Cohen, I put him down for a nap and helped the girls pick out something to eat for lunch.

April 2025, your POV

Early in the morning I woke up with the worst stomach cramps imaginable. I groaned and went to the bathroom, thinking I was just starting my period, but it hadn't come yet. I figured it would be here by the end of the day, and went back to bed. Unfortunately I was woken up an hour later by Cohen, crying from his nursery. I fed him and changed him and went to make myself a cup of coffee before getting the girls up for school.

As I was doing Alice's hair, she was talking to me about one of her friends from school.

"Guess what?? My friend Izzy is getting a baby sister! Isn't that so cool?" I responded enthusiastically, "That is really cool, baby! I bet she's so excited." I suddenly saw my daughter's face drop. "...Yeah. She's really eh-sited" "What's the matter, Al?" I asked, and rubbed her back gently. "I want a baby sissy" She pouted. Oh. "Well you have a baby brother" I reasoned with her, "And Iris". She nodded. "Yeah. I do." She slumped down as I finished her hair and went to put her shoes on. I sighed, and remembered what it had been like when we told the girls about Cohen. They were excited, but I could tell they were disappointed in him being a boy. I felt so bad that I didn't give them what they want.

Suddenly, the stomach pain returned. This time it turned to nausea. I ran to the bathroom to throw up, and then it hit me. No...there's no way. After Cohen was born, Luke and I had decided we didn't want anymore kids. At least not for a while. I went on birth control as soon as I could. But there's no doubt in my mind that this is exactly what I thought it was.

After the girls were at school, and with my fussy 5 month old son in my arms, I took a pregnancy test. Waiting those 2 minutes was the most nerve wracking time of my life. I talked to Cohen to try and distract myself, even though he had no idea what was going on. Then, I looked. Positive. A mild panic set in. I had to tell Luke.

"Hi there! My lady and my baby boy!" Luke cooed as I approached him in his office, and he took Cohen out of my arms. "Can I talk to you?" I asked, shyly, sitting down next to him. "Of course, is something wrong?" He asked softly. I quickly pulled the positive test from my pocket and showed it to him. "I know, we said we didn't want any more right now-- and I was on the pill so I don't know how-- I-- sorry--" And then, Luke cut me off with a kiss. "I don't care what I said, or what we decided. This is exciting. Scary, but exciting." He smiled and hugged my tight and Cohen babbled. "I love you" I squeaked as I started to cry. "This is good news, Y/N" Luke reassured me. "Yeah. Good news" I smiled. "You know what's crazy...This morning, Alice was upset because she didn't have a baby sister. Maybe that was a sign." I laughed a little and put my hands gently on my belly. "What do ya think Coco? Hm? You're gonna be a big brother" Luke cooed at our son and tickled his belly.
