Winter.

Harry and I were out.

We'd taken a day away from that small cabin in the middle of nowhere and ended up in a town. A town that was also in the middle of nowhere.

It had been an hour's drive to get here in a car he had rented, but I hadn't questioned the length of the journey. I assumed a smaller town was better, one that nobody really knew existed.

When we began walking, what I noticed immediately was the absence.

It felt wrong to be walking alongside him without Bean. We were so used to her running laps around us, trying to squeeze in between our ankles, or eating almost everything in sight. But I had to be realistic, there was no possible way for her to be with us. She was safe and with her grandparents, far from us and the danger we brought with us everywhere we went. I missed her terribly, however.

I'd not seen her since I left home after Harry and I had argued. I didn't even get to say a proper goodbye before I'd walked out that night into the pouring rain. And with everything happening, I worried that I'd never get the chance.

Hand in hand, we strolled idly through a park. The grass was green and fresh, the sky was blue with clouds every now and again. New spring leaves grew on the trees, everything looked so vibrant, so alive. And for a little while, everything felt okay. It was almost warm enough to be outside without a proper coat, but this far north there was still a cold wind that brushed through the trees.

8We didn't need to say anything. Even if there was so much to talk about. Listening to the spring birds chirping and children laughing somewhere in the distance was enough. For a little while, we got to pretend nothing else existed. That we were just two people walking through a park.

Eventually, we sat down on a bench, in the distance ahead, there was a fountain. One filled with pennies from people making wishes. Harry slid his arm around my waist, pulling me in closer, until I was pressed against him, and I rested my cheek on his shoulder. He turned to the side and pressed a kiss to my forehead.

That alone, that movement, his touch without hesitation took the weight of the world off my shoulders. I felt normal with him again. We felt normal. Despite the guilt still rotting inside of me for what I'd done, I felt better. He had forgiven me, he'd never hated me in the first place and didn't hate me now. I was working on forgiving myself— I'd just need a little more time.

"Do you really think it was Aaron?" I asked, ruining our peaceful bliss. But I couldn't let the question linger any longer inside of me.

"I don't know." Harry didn't seem bothered by the fact I'd brought it up. He shrugged slightly. "It's just a theory."

I nodded slowly, staring at an elderly couple on the other side of the park, throwing a soft toy for their dog.

"It makes sense, I guess." I exhaled a slow breath. "He hated Roman, in a way. Aaron basically worshipped the ground he walked on but despised him."
