Chapter Twenty-Two

Michael's Point of View:

Long days had passed and Lauren still wasn't talking to me. Christmas was soon approaching, and I wanted to at least get her to forgive me before I left for my parents house.

My mom had been nagging me about not coming to visit during thanksgiving break, and how I definitely had to during Christmas break. I knew this time I couldn't say no to her, since I hadn't seen her or my dad since college started.

One of the times my mom called me, she asked about Lauren. She tended to do that a lot, since she had always liked Lauren. I told her almost everything, except the part about us breaking up. She would've questioned me, and at that time I was in no mood to talk about it. I was a mess when she happened to call, so I had to play it off and act like everything was fine. Talking about the break up would've just made it worse.

"Michael?" Susan's annoying voice spoke up, taking me from my thoughts.

"What?" I snapped, already annoyed with her.

"I was just gonna ask if you could help the next customer." she gulped.

It was my first day back at work, since nobody had to come in the first week of break. The building was getting the outside redone, so therefore nobody had to come in.

Lauren and I had most of the same shifts, so I'm pretty sure she worked today. But she wasn't here, and I knew why.

She's avoiding me.

I understand why she is. She thinks she knows what she saw, but she really doesn't. When I was with her in her dorm two days ago, I tried to explain what really happened. Lauren wouldn't hear me out though, since she thinks she knows the whole story.

I've been a mess these past few days. I went to the frat party last night to try and forget about everything, but that didn't do anything. I saw Susan there, along with Luke and Nicole.

I explained everything to Luke.

He knows I'm not lying about anything, because I ended up breaking down in front of him. Never do I cry in front of anyone, let alone Luke. If I got emotional about something around him, he would tell me to stop being a bitch and get over whatever it is I'm upset over. But this is different. This is Lauren.

Since I cried my eyes out in front of Luke, he knew that I was telling the truth. If I was lying I wouldn't have been so upset..

He tried explaining everything to Nicole, but she wouldn't buy any of it. She still thinks I'm the same guy who cheated on Lauren before. But that's not true, I didn't want any of this to happen.

I was taken from my thoughts when I heard Susan's voice again. "Michael?"

"I'm doing it, calm down." I scoffed. Maybe I was being a little harsh towards her, but I didn't care. What she did was fucked up and cost me a lot of damage.

I lost the only thing that matters because of her.

Sighing to myself, I turned around and walked to the front of the counter. To my surprise, Luke was the next customer.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"When do you get off?" he asked, ignoring my question.

"In four hours. But I have a break in a half hour." I informed him.

Luke nodded, a grin forming on his face.

"Meet me outside in thirty minutes."

I didn't even have time to ask why I should do that, because he left the building so quickly. Confused about what just happened, I just got back to work like it didn't even happen.
