Diggy POV:
When we finally pulled up to Monae's house, I got outside, walking to the other side of the door and opening it for her.
"Get out." I demanded firmly. I couldn't afford having her run away or something.
Looking at Monae's house on the outside was kind of odd, I had to admit.
How could a criminal have such a nice house?
I thought to myself. She had a really nice front yard with trimmed grass, and some potted plants on her front porch.
My car was parked in her drive way, but she also had a garage, even though she didn't have a car.
"This way," Monae said, looking back, as she walked towards her front door.
As she opened her door, I began to feel a little bit nervous. I mean, what if she tried to kidnap me too? She was being a little bit too nice, for someone who had Emerald locked away somewhere.
I closed the door behind us, as she took her shoes off. I didn't bother, I didn't want to visit. I just wanted to grab Emerald and get out of there.
Monae sighed, as she walked toward a staircase leading to what looked like a basement. I followed. But as we went down, my nerves got even worse. What looked like a basement from above, actually looked like some kind of crazy holding chamber when you got in.
At the end of the hallway, there was only one door. It seemed to be made of really shiny iron.
I looked down at the floor. I couldn't take it.
"Is that, is that uh," I began, but I couldn't finish. Thinking about the fact that Monae could do this to someone - especially someone that I loved - just made me feel sick and I couldn't even imagine why she would do this. "Yeah." Monae simply replied. She didn't even seem fazed anymore.
Out of a pocket in her blazer, she pulled out a tiny gold key, and stuck it into the key hole. I stayed far away from the door, afraid that she might push me in. As she turned the key and I saw her open the door, I saw Emerald inside the room, slumped over in a corner.
I couldn't handle it anymore. I pushed Monae into the room too, so that she couldn't lock me in. I knelt beside Emerald.
"Baby, are you awake?", I said, as I leaned in trying to check her vital signs.
Her eyes weren't open, and she had horrible cuts on her wrist.
Frantic, because Emerald wasn't saying anything, I turned around and smacked Monae across her face, her body smashing against the cold wall.
I grabbed the keys from her hands, and unlocked Emerald's wrists from the cuffs.
I picked Emerald up, and tried to sling her over my shoulder, but it didn't really work, so I had to force her pretty-much lifeless body to stand, and walk along with me.
"We- we're okay, you're okay. I whispered to Emerald.
I heard Monae weeping in the background, but I didn't care about her. I got Emerald out of the room as fast as I could, and locked the iron door just as Monae tried to stand.
"Please!" Monae screamed.
"Please! We made a deal!"
I didn't say anything, just threw the keys on the floor, and carried Emerald outside of the house, and into the car.
Getting her into daylight, she looked even worse.
I couldn't deal with this. As Emerald was laying in the front seat next to me, I leaned over the dash and I could feel heat radiating off my face, as tears streamed down my cheeks.
Suddenly, I heard Emerald shift around.
"W-why, what."
She mumbled. I looked over, and then suddenly, as her eyes locked with mine she became more aware. She began to scream.
"Diggy, Diggy! Help me, please, help me!"
She was clearly delusional, from being starved and deprived from water for however long. I leaned over, and grabbed her face in my hands, forcing her to look at me. At this point, we were both crying. But I had to be strong, I had to keep Emerald calm.
"Emerald, you're safe now. Baby, you're safe. Don't be scared."
She stopped screaming, and looked into my eyes.
"I'm so sorry, please, why didn't I listen. I should have listened."
Her old makeup from the party was still on, residue of it smeared all over her face.
"Don't apologize," I said, taking her into my arms. "This isn't your fault. But we need to get home. We need to get you fed, and we need to call the police. Just sit tight."
I let go of her, and put my foot on the gas. I sped down the street, as I drove back home.
